It will provide quicker access to Silang and Tagaytay.

According to the Metro Pacific Tollway Corporation (MPTC), its new Silang – Aguinaldo interchange at the Cavite Expressway (CALAX) will be opened for use by the general public before the end of 2022.

For those who aren’t in the know, this new interchange is one of the eight subsections of the CALAX. Specifically, it is designated as subsection 4. As mentioned, it links the Aguinaldo Highway to the Silang East interchange.

Currently, the progress for this subsection stands at 56 percent completion. The remaining construction on this interchange now involves roadway earthworks, the addition of bridge connections, as well as the establishment of drainage systems. The company is also currently installing a fence, as well as a netting to stave away debris.

In total, this CALAX subsection is 3.9-kilometers long, and it consists of four lanes in total. Once completed, it will then provide easy access to Silang and Tagaytay, Cavite for motorists coming from destinations from the north, like Metro Manila. To be exact, those heading to Tagaytay can use the said subsection as an alternative exit away from CALAX.

This of course means potential economic gains via tourism for the government and populace of the said destination. Apart from that, the CALAX subsection 4 will also help in decongesting the very busy Emilio Aguinaldo Highway.

The CALAX as a whole is then slated for completion in 2023. And once it is fully operational, it might be able to cut down the travel times from CAVITEX to the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and vice versa to just 45 minutes.

Besides CALAX, MPTC currently manages and operates the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX), the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway, etc. MPTC itself is part of the Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC). MPIC is one of the three businesses under the First Pacific Co. Ltd. Investment management and holding company.
