SLEX Elevated Extension can accommodate 200,000 cars daily

Motorists driving through the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) could have most likely used the Skyway northbound and/or southbound extension by now. The two elevated expressways are part of the Php 14 billion SLEX Elevated Extension project that was recently inaugurated recently by President Rodrigo Duterte.

The full completion of the SLEX Elevated Extension project is seen to help boost economic growth in Metro Manila as well as its surrounding provinces. It is also expected to ease traffic, and give motorists faster travel time.

"We welcome this infrastructure development at a time when our economy is slowly opening up and recovering from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic," Duterte said during the inauguration ceremony held at the Alabang Northbound Entry in Alabang, Muntinlupa City. 

SLEX Elevated Extension northbound

The Skyway northbound section of the SLEX Elevated Extension was opened to motorists last April 2021. The said section allows motorists to reach the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) in 25 to 30 minutes instead of the usual travel time of two to three hours. It runs from Susana Heights to Sucat, giving easier access for motorists coming from Laguna or Batangas to get onto the Skyway. 

Meanwhile, the Skyway southbound section of the SLEX Elevated Extension opened last December 2021. It has two lanes that run from the Skyway Main Toll Plaza to Soldier’s Hills in Muntinlupa. Motorists should keep right or use the right-most pass-thru toll plaza to access the southbound elevated expressway.

San Miguel Corporation (SMC) president Ramon Ang said the southbound section of the SLEX Extension has provided faster travel for motorists bound to Muntinlupa, Las Piñas, Cavite, Laguna, and Batangas.

“Since we soft-opened the southbound SLEX Extension last December 10, 2021 motorists in the south have seen a major improvement in the traffic situation. It has provided relief to thousands of motorists who go home every day to Muntinlupa, Las Pinas, Cavite, Laguna, and Batangas,” Ang said. 

Ang added that the north- and south-bound lanes of the SLEX Elevated Extension can accommodate 200,000 cars per day. This results in more convenient travel to and from the south, according to the SMC chief.
