The Nissan Magnite has proven to be so popular in India that customers are looking at a six-month waiting list. Southeast Asia will now get a piece of the action as the Magnite arrives in the ASEAN region, starting with Indonesia.

In preparation for its rollout in more markets, the vehicle has already been put through its paces at the New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) in terms of crash safety.
The result? A four-star rating based on the overall scores garnered. Further details have yet to be released. The Magnite is the second Nissan vehicle assessed for the year 2020, following the Nissan Kicks which managed a perfect five stars.
The Nissan Magnite has sailed through ASEAN NCAP crash safety assessments
Since the Magnite is currently manufactured only in India, the specific unit tested by ASEAN NCAP is a base model carrying Indian specifications. The top-spec trim of the Magnite packs safety features such as dual airbags, ISOFix anchors, electronic stability control, and anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution. Rear parking sensors, a 360-degree surround camera, and a tire pressure monitor are also standard.
News of the Magnite’s satisfactory crash performance should bode well for Nissan’s bid to establish its dominance in the Indian market, which has placed an increasing premium on safety.

Dual airbags are part of the Magnite's standard safety equipment
Nissan’s smallest crossover rides on the modular CMF-A+ platform by Renault-Nissan, an extended version of the CMF-A platform used by the Renault Kwid and Datsun RediGo, both of which fared poorly in crash safety assessments. The Magnite is the first Indian-made vehicle based on the new platform to undergo ASEAN NCAP crash tests.
Despite the new chassis also being used on the three-row Renault Triber MPV, the Magnite only has room for five occupants. The upcoming Renault Kiger subcompact crossover will also be underpinned by the platform and, like the Magnite and the Triber, will be assembled in India.
