Last year in October, Toyota released the facelifted 2021 Toyota Innova in Indonesia. Now, UMW Toyota Motor then launched the refreshed Toyota-mad MPV in the Malaysian market. As such, it seems that it’s only a matter of time before the Philippine market gets the facelifted Toyota Innova.
So, what’s with the 2021 Innova? One of the most obvious changes made to the Innova’s 2021 refresh is found on its front fascia. It has gained a more compact trapezoidal grille, a sharper-looking pair of LED headlights, and the position and housing of the front fog lamps were changed to look more modern.

For the rear, the higher-trip variants received a blacked-out tailgate trim, and the taillights are now surrounded by black pieces that make its L-shape pop-out even more.
For the Malaysia-spec Innova 2.0X, it gets front and rear bumper spoilers, new wheel arch moldings, and revised side skirts. It also gets a new dark grey metallic set of 17-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, the Malaysian top-of-the-line Innova now comes standard with black leather upholstery, as well as an electronically adjustable seat for the driver. For entertainment, the top-spec 2.0X and the mid-range variant also gets a 9-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Indonesian model received the same touchscreen, but without the aforementioned smartphone connectivity software.
In comparison, the current top-spec Toyota Innova for the Philippine market only has a manually adjustable driver’s seat, and a smaller touchscreen with iPod connectivity, Bluetooth, and Aux only.

For seating capacity though, not much has changed. The top-of-the-line models still get captain seats and can fit in up to seven, and the rest can still comfortably seat up to eight.
Overall, the new look of the Innova isn’t a subtle change at all. The new trapezoidal grille found on the Malaysian and the Indonesian-spec Innova facelift provides it with a more aggressive look, which of course enhances the MPV’s macho appeal.
Moreover, the top-spec models equipped with the black trim are sportier-looking than the previous version. This is especially true with the Malaysian 2.0X variant, which looks even more aggressive than the Indonesian Luxury V variant.
