Mitsubishi Motors just announced that an all-new Outlander is already in the works and will be unveiled soon. Unfortunately, Mitsubishi Motors hasn’t shared any of the specifications and new features of the next-gen Outlander.
The Japanese carmaker has shifted its focus on designing innovative crossovers and SUVs, instead of the vehicles we got used to seeing from the brand such as the Lancer, Galant, and Eclipse. So far, the brand adjustment is working for Mitsubishi which could be a good thing for its new releases including the Outlander compact crossover.

The next-gen Outlander, which would be its fourth-generation model, is likely to be sold as a 2022 model. This means that Mitsubishi Motor Philippines Corporation (MMPC), the official business unit of Mitsubishi in the country, would likely offer a carryover of the 2020 Outlander as the 2021 model.
With that being said, let’s take a look at the possible changes the fourth-generation Outlander could offer in the industry and see where the compact crossover could stand in the local market.
2021 Mitsubishi Outlander: Exterior
One of the most common connotations the Mitsubishi Outlander Philippines gets around the world is that it looks bland. For a car that barely scratches the Php 3-million price point, many would say that Mitsubishi Motors should step up the design game of the Outlander.

Fortunately, the leaked photos of the next-gen Outlander suggest that the compact crossover will come with sleeker styling. For us Filipinos, we will not have a hard time digesting the expected new styling of the fourth-gen Outlander as it resembles the Montero Sport SUV that many of us are familiar with.
The rear end also gets a huge update. The taillights are now sleeker than the current model. It is also installed with a twin-looking exhaust which adds a bit of a sporty touch to the new model. Other details such as the body character lines on the rear and sides are enhanced as well.

As said earlier, no actual specifications have been released by Mitsubishi Motors just yet so it’s hard to pinpoint the new features. All that we know by now is the Japanese carmaker has improved the exterior styling of the next-gen Outlander.
As for the body color options, MMPC will still likely offer the Outlander with white pearl and titanium gray metallic for this year. Moreover, red diamond, black mica, ruby black pearl, solid white, sterling silver metallic, and quartz brown are also available for order request.

2021 Mitsubishi Outlander: Interior
Unfortunately, no spy shots are taken in the interior of the possible next-gen Mitsubishi Outlander. But we are hoping that the next-gen Outlander will come with similar interior design features as the Mitsubishi Engelberg concept that comes with futuristic details.

Since we are expecting a carryover for the upcoming 2021 PH-spec Outlander, then it will still likely offer the local market with leather seats, 4-way power seats for the driver, electric sliding sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, and synthetic leather trims across the interior.
2021 Mitsubishi Outlander: Engine and performance
No engine details have been shared by Mitsubishi Motors as well. However, we can expect the same 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine capable of generating 126 hp and 199 Nm of torque to be carried over to the next-gen Outlander. It is paired with a permanent magnet synchronous motor and a 13.8 kWh lithium-ion battery.

Another feature worth noting in the Mitsubishi Outlander is its super all-wheel control (S-AWC) 4WD system. It helps the Outlander drive through any type of road condition with ease and comfort. The drivetrain is complemented with a drive-mode selector, active stability control with traction control, and hill start assist.
Of note, Mitsubishi said that the Outlander PHEV is currently the best-selling plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) in the world. One of the reasons for this is the Outlander’s powertrain that offers owners good fuel economy and a smooth driving experience.

2021 Mitsubishi Outlander: On-board tech and safety features
The upcoming 2021 PH-spec Mitsubishi Outlander is likely to still offer the same features such as an 8-inch infotainment screen that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, four speakers with four tweeters, and a multi-information display.

As for safety, the Mitsubishi Outlander is expected to still come with the same handful of features including anti-lock brake assist (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane change assist, forward collision mitigation system, ultrasonic mis-acceleration mitigation system, and more.
2021 Mitsubishi Outlander: Final thoughts
The local market should expect that MMPC will still offer the same Outlander PHEV. This makes sense since it was only launched last 2020. Moreover, the all-new model is yet to be globally launched by Mitsubishi. With that, it’s safe to say that it could take some time before the all-new Outlander debuts in the Philippine market.

2021 Mitsubishi Outlander: Expected pricing
Currently, MMPC offers the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV with a starting price of Php 2,998,000. With this price tag, some Filipino car buyers would rather get cars from premium brands such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz. This could be one of the biggest challenges MMPC will face considering that the electric vehicle market in the country is not as broad as compared to other markets.
