The Toyota Hiace is one of the most used vehicles in the country mainly due to its size and reliability. It is one of the ideal vehicles that can be used to haul a group of people from one place to the other. For that reason, the Toyota Hiace is one of the preferred vans of transport operators.
Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP), the official business unit of Toyota in the country, is offering the base Commuter Deluxe Hiace variant for Php 1,649,000 and goes up to Php 2,998,000 for the top-spec Elite Super Grandia. All variants of the Hiace are powered by a 2.8-liter diesel engine good for a maximum power output of 176 hp and 450 Nm of torque.
In line with the Toyota Hiace’s frequent use, maintenance should be a factor to consider at all times to keep it running smoothly on the go whether for public or private use. Luckily, TMP shared with us the estimates for the maintenance costs of a Toyota Hiace.
The Toyota Hilux Commuter
Of note, the estimates can vary without prior notice and can still depend on the chosen dealership. The following estimates are just provided to give you an idea if you are considering a Toyota Hiace. As such, the following estimates for the maintenance costs are just for ballpark figures.
Maintenance costs for Parts and Labor
An average vehicle records a 25,000-kilometer mileage per year if used as a daily driver. This number could double if the Toyota Hiace is used as a public utility vehicle which results in higher annual maintenance costs. But for this writing, we will stick with the average mileage per year for the following estimates.
The Toyota Hiace is not as expensive as the Fortuner and Toyota Hilux to maintain. The Hiace’s relatively affordable preventive maintenance service (PMS) costs are due to its diesel engine, which is generally cheaper to maintain than a gasoline engine.
The Deluxe variant of the Toyota Hilux Commuter
The first 1,000 and 5,000-kilometer mileages will cost you Php 2,100 each. Basic car components such as oil and fluids will be refilled accordingly. Once you reach the 10,000-km mark, expect to pay Php 4,000 only, more than a thousand pesos less than the Toyota Fortuner and Toyota Hilux.
The PMS costs will get higher for both the 15,000 and 25,000-km mileages as they come with a price that ranges from Php 3,200 to Php 5,100. The exact costs will depend on the condition of your Toyota Hiace whether some parts need to be replaced or not.
In between the 15,000 and 25,000-km mileages, you should also expect to pay Php 6,000 for the 20,000-km PMS. Overall, the maintenance costs of owning a Toyota Hilux for the first year range from Php 20,600 to Php 24,400. The maintenance costs will inevitably go higher as years pass as more major parts such as the timing belt must be replaced.
