Toyota Corona Philippines Overview

The Toyota Corona is a compact sedan. During its active years, it was offered as a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive, and a front-wheel-drive vehicle worldwide. It features a timeless exterior designed with a lengthened front fascia, curvy edges, and a subtle rear. Inside, it offers a roomy and noise-free cabin fitted with pleasant driver and passenger amenities five fully grown adults will enjoy. On its final generation, the Toyota Corona was offered in the following engine options: a 1.6L, a 1.8L, a 2.0L, a 2.0L Turbo, and a 2.0L diesel. It is paired with either a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual transmission.

Launch

The first generation Toyota Corona sedan was launched in May 1957. It was built with parts from the Toyota Crown and the Toyopet Master powered by a 32 horsepower side-valve engine. 

Its second generation was produced in March 1960 and was exported as the Toyota Tiara. Initially, it was fitted with a 1.0-liter engine that was upgraded into a 1.5-liter and 1.9-liter engine. 

In 1964, the third generation Toyota Corona was released in the market. Buyers can choose from the standard sedan, a two-door hardtop, a five-door station wagon, a three-door van, a five-door hatchback, and a stylish coupe. 

The fourth-generation Toyota Corona was released in February 1970 flaunting a bigger body, and a more powerful, fuel-efficient engine. From its fifth to the last generation, the Toyota Corona dominated roads due to its impressive built and extensive choice of engine. 

In the Philippines, Toyota Motors Corporation in partnership with Delta Motor Corporation manufactured the Toyota Corona from 1964 to 1992. It was marketed as the Corona Exsior from 1993 to 1998. Production stopped due to the release of the Toyota Camry.

Exterior

The Toyota Corona measures 4,520mm long, 1,685mm wide, and 1,410mm tall. It features an elegant body designed with a pair of boxy headlights, a wide chrome or black grille, fog lights, body-colored door handles and side mirror, black side moldings on the front that extends on the side, a lowered trunk and beltline for better visibility, body-colored front and rear bumpers with black trim, a three-piece spoiler, and broad red/amber tail lights.

Interior

The Toyota Corona offers a spacious cabin courtesy of its 2,580mm wheelbase. It can accommodate five fully grown passengers. Interior highlights include genuine leather seats with elastic padding, a reclined instrument panel for better reach and visibility,  faux wood grain dash panel, expanded headroom with a straight front pillar angle, cup holders, ashtray, door trims with shock absorbents, and an air conditioning system with purifier and ionizer.

Technology & Safety features

The Toyota Corona is fitted with an electric door lock, power door mirrors, and a UV rays-blocking glass window. 

In terms of safety, it is equipped with an anti-lock braking system, ELR three-point seat belts, SRS dual airbags, adjustable headrests, and more.
