Mitsubishi’s top-selling hybrid vehicle is now available locally.

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) has officially joined the hybrid electric vehicle game in the Philippines as it launched the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV).

This is Mitsubishi’s first hybrid vehicle, and it has sold over 260,000 units across Europe, North America, Japan, and Australia. It’s entry to the Philippine market comes not as a surprise since talks about its local launch have been going around as early as January 2020.

Moreover, the local market is somehow already acquainted with the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV as it is showcased in various events for the past couple of years. MMPC has also been donating the Outlander PHEV to both the local and national government. However, despite being around in the Philippines, MMPC took its time in launching the Outlander PHEV.

To put things in perspective, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV comes with dimensions that are comparable to the compact crossovers available in the Philippines. It’s smaller compared to the locally available midsize SUVs such as the Ford Everest and Nissan Terra. In terms of seating capacity, the Outlander PHEV can accommodate up to five individuals. It also comes with an 8-inch multimedia system that features Bluetooth connectivity and Android Auto.

As such, this latest Mitsubishi vehicle in the country will most likely go up against the likes of the Toyota Corolla Cross and Geely Azkarra, which are both hybrid vehicles. However, it’s a different story when you look at the Outlander PHEV’s price tag that comes in at Php 2,998,000, which is Php 2,000 shy of entering the three million bracket. With that in mind, the price point of the Outlander PHEV is within the range of Lexus hybrid vehicles such as the CT 200h (Php 2,458,000) and the NX 300h (Php 3,678,000).

The Outlander PHEV can achieve a range of 55 km on one full charge

The Outlander PHEV is equipped with two electric motors and a gasoline engine. It also comes with a four-wheel-drive system that delivers power independently to the front and rear wheels. This vehicle comes with a 2.4-liter gasoline engine that delivers 126 hp and 199 Nm of torque. MMPC adds that the Outlander PHEV’s maximum motor output is 60kW for the front and 70kW for the rear.

The max torque is at 137 Nm for the front and 195 Nm for the rear. The Outlander PHEV can achieve a range of 55 km on one full charge. According to Mitsubishi Motors, it takes less than four hours to fully charge the Outlander PHEV using a Level 2 (240V) charger.

It has a 5-star safety rating

Safety-wise, the Outlander PHEV is loaded with features. In fact, this vehicle was awarded by the New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) with the maximum 5-star rating. It comes with safety features such as adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation system, blind-spot warning, lane change assist, ultrasonic misacceleration mitigation system, among many others.

The Outlander PHEV will initially start sales in the country through Peak Motors Philippines Inc. (PMPI) dealership in Manila Bay. MMPC said PMPI will also be the first dealership to install a Vehicle to Home (V2H) facility.
