The 2022 Honda HR-V finally sets foot on Philippine soil, over a year after its global premiere in Japan in February 2021. This all-new third-generation model brings a turbocharged engine for the first time in our market, accompanied by enhanced safety through Honda Sensing.

Available in two trim levels, the subcompact crossover is being anchored by Honda on five key selling points: Contemporary style, Cutting Edge Technology, Versatile and Spacious Interior, Dynamic Performance & Handling, and Honda’s promise of DQR (Durability, Quality, and Reliability).
The new model is now underpinned by Honda’s Global Small Car Platform which it shares with the fourth-generation Jazz and seventh-generation City.
Exterior
Outside, the new HR-V spans between 4,330mm and 4,385mm long, 1,790mm wide, and 1,590mm high, standing longer and higher than the outgoing version while retaining the 2,610mm wheelbase. Ground clearance is at 196mm and 181mm on the base S and higher-spec V variants, respectively, compared to 185mm on the previous version.

The exterior design is dominated by a sleeker and more futuristic-looking aesthetic on the fascia, with a seemingly minimalist-looking mesh-type grille flanked by LED headlamps resembling wings. Daytime running lights and LED projector fog lamps complete the exterior lighting setup in front.
Sportiness begins with the front chin, extending to body claddings for the wheel arches and rocker panels. Twin character lines define the otherwise clean profile, accompanied by a high beltline. The new HR-V continues to sport camouflaged handles for the second-row doors.
There’s an increased rake on the tailgate, sloping down to a new rear bumper and diffuser with wraparound LED rear lamps midway. A set of 17-inch alloy wheels prop up the HR-V from the ground, divided between two-tone black and silver for the S and gray for the V.
Interior
The new HR-V continues to seat five occupants, surrounding them with a primarily black interior trim. Leather seats are available, featuring height and recline adjustments for the front occupants.
The revised interior now comes with more tech than before while remaining versatile
There’s plenty of storage to stow valuables and small items, with a center console box, front door pockets, and up to eight cup and bottle holders. Flexibility is likely one of the HR-V’s strong points, with the familiar ULT (Utility, Long, Tall) seating coming into play thanks to 60:40 split-fold rear seats.
Tech & Safety
A 7-inch customizable digital display is available for the instrument panel just behind the multi-function steering wheel, displaying standard vehicle information and then some. The 8-inch touchscreen display audio offers Bluetooth and USB input aside from Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, patched to six speakers.
Seats can still be reconfigured for flexibility in carrying passengers or cargo
Aside from dual airbags, anti-lock brakes, and electronic assist for vehicle stability, hill starts, and hill descents, the HR-V now offers Honda Sensing as standard kit. This includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Low Speed Follow, Collision Mitigation Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Road Departure Mitigation, Auto High Beam, and Lead Car Departure Notification.
Engine & Drivetrain
Under the hood lies a selection of two power units. The base S comes with a 1.5-liter DOHC i-VTEC 4-cylinder gasoline engine rated at 119 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque.
Two engine options are available
For the upper-spec V, there’s a turbocharged version rated at 174 horsepower and a heftier 240 Nm of twist. Both trim levels deliver power to the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission.Two drive modes, Econ and Normal, are offered by default on the range, with the V trim coming with a Sport configuration.
Price
The 2022 Honda HR-V retails for Php 1,250,000 for the S trim, going up to Php 1,598,000 for the higher V variant.
