Subaru’s XV subcompact crossover is currently halfway through its second generation, and Motor Image Pilipinas, Inc. has introduced the facelifted version. The improved model was launched globally last year for the 2021 model year, bringing a host of aesthetic, performance, and safety enhancements for fans of the badge.
2021 Subaru XV Facelift: Not for everyone | Philkotse Reviews
Exterior
The updated XV shares its dimensions with the pre-facelift version for the most part, with the only difference being the additional 20mm in length. It retains the 220mm ground clearance that makes the XV confidently tackle urban potholes as well as ruts on the trails.
The 2021 Subaru XV sports a more athletic look with its revised fascia
Styling changes on the fascia include a larger front bumper with urethane cladding, accompanied by a restyled grille and revised housings that now feature LED foglamps. New 18-inch alloy wheels add to the refreshed XV’s sportier character.
Interior
There’s no learning curve required when getting aboard the facelifted XV’s interior as it still uses its predecessor’s layout. With the same 2,665mm wheelbase, occupants can expect the same head- and leg-room as well as space for cargo behind the 60/40 split-fold rear bench seats.
The interior is largely the same, with a number of minor tweaks
The 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat now features a memory function so owners can easily revert to their custom settings even after someone else has been behind the wheel. Lightweight aluminum pedals provide ease of control as well as inspire spirited driving.
Tech & Safety
Dual-zone automatic air-conditioning remains a standard feature, ideal for passengers with varying temperature preferences when on drives. The infotainment system comprises an 8-inch touchscreen head unit featuring Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity. Personal devices can be recharged with up to three USB ports on board.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard
The usual safety features include seven airbags, ISOFix anchors, anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC), as well as the acclaimed Subaru EyeSight suite of driver-assist technologies. Dual-function X-Mode makes an appearance, offering distinct dial-in traction settings for snow/dirt and deep snow/mud conditions. Reverse auto-tilt door mirrors and speed-sensing auto door locks are a new addition for the latest release.
Engine
The facelifted XV continues to be powered by a 2.0-liter Boxer engine with direct fuel injection, delivering up to 154 hp and 196 Nm of torque. A Lineartronic CVT with 7-speed manual mode channels the output to all four wheels, working with Subaru’s trademark Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive system.
The refreshed XV retains the 2.0-liter horizontally-opposed power plant under the hood
The refreshed XV now comes with Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-Drive) engine management system, offering Sport and Intelligent Modes to give drivers the flexibility of choosing between efficiency and sporty response. A retuned suspension system features optimized coil springs and dampers that buoy the XV’s Subaru Global Platform for improved comfort whether on long highway cruises or forays into rough roads.
Pricing
The 2021 Subaru XV carries a sticker price of Php 1.908 million with a single 2.0i-S EyeSight variant available in a range of eight colors. According to Motor Image Pilipinas, this is the same price tag as on the outgoing pre-facelift model.
What’s more, the refreshed XV will be offered at an introductory price of Php 1.828 million until June 30, 2021, with Subaru Philippines shouldering the full cost of the safeguard duty bond imposed by the DTI. Visit your nearest Subaru showroom or log on to the Subaru Asia website to find out more.
