The best off-roader in the country right now?

Land Rover Philippines is pleased to introduce the beautiful and stunning construction of the newly added Defender. Chris Ward, president of Coventry Motors Corp, said that the Defender is a true embodiment of adventurous spirits of Filipinos and is the perfect vehicle for both the city driving and road trips.

The Land Rover Series was first introduced in 1948. It has shown extraordinary ruggedness and versatility throughout the years, which helped solidify the British marque’s name in the industry. With this, the making of the new Defender is inspired by the original pioneering spirit of Land Rover.

A distinctive silhouette makes the Defender instantly recognizable thanks to its minimal front and rear overhangs that also provide excellent approach and departure angles. The designers re-envisioned familiar Defender trademarks for the 21st century, giving the Defender its distinctive and unique proportions. Gerry McGovern, chief design officer of Land Rover, said that the new Defender is respectful of its past but is not harnessed by it.

Land Rover made sure that the Defender will bring robust ruggedness especially off-roads. The new Defender has been through more than 62,000 tests for engineering sign-off and has a construction three times stiffer than traditional body-on-frame designs.

To further enhance the driver’s off-roading experience with the Defender, the SUV comes with permanent all-wheel-drive twin-speed transfer box with a rear axle open differential, or with an optional electronic active differential. These will help the Defender take on any given roads in the country.

Moreover, the Defender comes with 291 mm of ground clearance, 3,500 kg towing capacity, a maximum wading depth of 900 mm, and Land Rover’s ClearSight Ground View technology.

Powering the Defender is a 3.0-liter Ingenium 400 6-cylinder gasoline engine featuring efficient mild hybrid electric (MHEV) powertrain that gives it enough power, control, and efficiency for any environment.

The Land Rover Defender’s local price starts at Php 6,310,000 and is offered with four refined editions, namely the Explorer, Adventure, Country, and Urban. As of this writing, the only Defender offered is the 4-door 110. Land Rover Philippines said that it will introduce the compact and shorter wheelbase Defender 90 in Q1 2021.

“We’ve embraced Defender’s stunning capability and minimalistic, functional interior to reinvent the icon for the 21st century. New Defender gives us the license to do things differently, to push the boundaries and do the unthinkable, without ever losing the character and authenticity of the original,” said Nick Rogers, executive director and product engineer of Jaguar Land Rover.
