Volvo Philippines will be launching two new fully-electric cars this year. This expands the brand’s currently available lineup comprising hybrids like the XC40, XC60, XC90, and S90.
The Volvo XC40 Recharge
According to Volvo Philippines President and CEO Atty. Alberto B. Arcilla, being a car company, the brand knows it is part of the climate change problem. But on the flip side, it is also aware that it can contribute to helping the issue. And to do just that, it is committed to an “electric future.”
Arcilla added that Volvo’s local arm is in line with this, and it will “once again move the brand forward towards its vision by introducing two pure electric vehicles in the second half of 2023.”
C40 teaser
With regards to what cars the brand is launching, there are several clues. First is a teaser that was posted by Volvo Philippines on its social media pages back in January 2023. It shows the rear end of a vehicle showing the unmistakable taillights of the C40 Recharge. Also, the C40 badge is visible.
As of this time, we don’t know whether we’ll get the single or twin-motor versions of the C40 Recharge. Note though that the global version of the single-motor C40 can make up to 231 horsepower and 330 Nm of torque. The twin motor version meanwhile gets all-wheel-drive (AWD) and it can churn out 408 horsepower and 660 Nm of torque. The twin motor version then gets 580 kilometers of range while the single motor version has 611 km of range.
Volvo C40 Recharge
With regards to the second Volvo EV that will be launched locally, we’re hoping that it’s the 2024 version of XC40 Recharge. This particular version of the XC40 is interesting since it is the first rear-wheel-drive Volvo in 25 years with the last one being the 900 series.
For the global 2024 version, the XC40 Recharge makes 238 horsepower. There’s also a twin-motor AWD version that outputs 408 horsepower.
