Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) might have another hit on its hands as it enters the subcompact crossover arena with the Raize, but there’s a slight hitch to the momentum, as those specifically looking at the top-spec Raize 1.0 Turbo CVT will have to wait a little while longer.
Toyota Motor Philippines apparently did not anticipate the demand for the top-spec variant
This information comes from various Toyota dealers, saying that deliveries of the flagship Raize trim level could take between three and four months before reaching customers.
No reason was given for the delay, although the dealerships we’ve spoken to all cited the unexpected surge in market demand. The Raize is imported from Indonesia in a range of colors, and the pricier White Pearl hue apparently comprises the bulk of orders from customers for the range-topping Raize Turbo.
For those who can’t wait to scratch their subcompact crossover itch, the good news is that the Raize’s G trim level is readily available. Even without the turbocharged engine, it still offers the convenience and fuel efficiency of a continuously variable transmission, delivering 87 horsepower and 113 Nm of torque from the 1.2-liter power unit to the front wheels.
A 7-inch digital instrument panel is present on both the G and Turbo trim levels
Externally, it is identical to the turbocharged variant save for the two-tone body color. Split-type LED headlamps with daytime running lights and halogen foglamps can be found on the fascia. A piano black garnish adorns the tailgate that’s topped by a rear spoiler.
Inside, the G variant also offers seating for five, with 6-way manual adjustment for the driver’s seat. Similar to the 1.0 Turbo, it also comes with a 7-inch digital instrument panel and an automatic air-conditioning system. While the 8-inch touchscreen head unit is a tad smaller than the one found on the Turbo variant, it still offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The G variant also uses a CVT, but only the Turbo comes with paddle shifters
The G trim misses out on the Turbo’s Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert as well as having four less airbags, but it still comes with anti-lock brakes, stability control, hill start assist, and Toyota Vehicle Security System (TVSS) as standard.
Pricing for the Toyota Raize G 1.2 CVT is at Php 906,000, so if you’re not very particular about the non-turbo engine and have a set budget of less than a million, it’s still a good buy.
