Toyota is taking part once again in supporting athletes and sports. This time, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) announced that it is honored to become a local major sponsor for the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

The country’s leading car company will ensure the success of the upcoming global sporting event. Also part of this is TMP’s new partnership with the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) and Gilas Pilipinas.

“It is with great appreciation and warmth that we welcome Toyota Motor Philippines to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 family,” said SBP Chairman Emeritus Manny V. Pangilinan.

TMP is assisting in various basketball clinics and coaches camp heading into this year’s FIBA Basketball World Cup. All of these activities are said to “highlight the significance of this sports event that the SBP is undertaking, as well as championing the national team and other local athletes.”

Co-hosting with Japan and Indonesia, the Philippines will be hosting the majority of the games that will be happening from August 25 to September 10. This year’s participation will be the Philippines’ seventh time playing in the international tournament and the second time hosting the event since 1978.

“By being part of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 journey, one of the biggest global sports [events] this year, we aim to further inspire and encourage more Filipinos to use the power of movement to reach their full potential. This is the spirit of our ‘Start Your Impossible’ global sports campaign,” said TMP President Atsuhiro Okamoto.

As mentioned earlier, Toyota is keen on supporting sports. Last 2020, TMP led the ‘Toyota Football for Tomorrow’ (TFFT) project in the country to help young Filipinos hone their football skills. The company also recently supported a local e-racing team at the Asia Regional Finals of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Gran Turismo (TGR GT) Cup 2022.
