The next generation of Toyota’s Innova midsize multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) is likely having its world premiere very soon, and could carry the Innova Hycross moniker.
Toyota Indonesia released the first official teaser image of the upcoming MPV
This was hinted at by Toyota Indonesia’s post on its Facebook page, revealing the first official teaser image of the upcoming model. Style-wise, the fascia shows a hexagonal grille that’s noticeably larger than the one used on the current version, looking similar to the intake used by the Corolla Cross.
The headlamps surrounding it sport a sleeker and more aggressive-looking design, expected to be LED units along with the accompanying daytime running lights. Prominent creases are evident on the hood. Meanwhile, the front bumper has been redesigned with just a hint of the side ports showing at the corners, which could either be turn signal housings or air vents.
The overall silhouette hews closely to that of the current Avanza
Recent spy shots of a heavily camouflaged unit spotted on Indian public roads hint at an overall silhouette influenced by the new-generation Avanza. The LED lighting continues at the rear with the tail lamps complemented by halogen turn signals, and alloy wheels are evident.
Details of the interior are scarce, although the Innova Hycross will reportedly come with a floating-type touchscreen infotainment display. This is part of an expectedly long equipment list that is said to include a sunroof, a 360-degree camera array, wireless charging, and an ‘ottoman function’ for the second-row captain’s chairs.
The diesel powertrain as used by the current Innova will reportedly be replaced
The Innova Hycross is rumored to ride on a unibody chassis, departing from its tradition of sharing the truck-based Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle (IMV) platform with the Hilux midsize pickup and Fortuner midsize SUV. Another deviation is that the upcoming MPV will reportedly replace the diesel engine with a 2.0-liter gasoline-hybrid powertrain, spinning the front wheels with 175 horsepower.
In Indonesia, the new MPV will have its global debut as the Innova Zenix in November, while the Indian market will have a Maruti Suzuki-derived model launching by the first quarter of 2023.
