Could this be the all-new 2023 Toyota Innova?

Reports suggest that it will not use a ladder frame and RWD anymore.

The Toyota Innova recently got a facelift last year which featured a stronger appeal thanks to the addition of a revamped front fascia. Now, the Japanese automaker seems like it is looking to completely restructure the MPV from the front to the back based on the spy photos that leaked online.

Are we looking at the new Innova?

In a report by Rushlane.com, the next-gen Toyota Innova for the 2023 model looks like it is roaming around the streets of Thailand in camouflage. This will be the market where the new model will likely make its global debut. The cover is quite heavy so not a lot of details can be interpreted.

But looking at the sole rear end spy photo, the MPV is equipped with a new taillight design, disregarding the fang-like housing of the turn signal lamps. It also comes with a new alloy wheel that gets more aggressive spokes as compared to the straightforward finishes of the current offerings.

Toyota remains mum regarding the upcoming model. There are reports, however, that the new Innova will be riding on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform. This means that the current use of a body-on-frame chassis will be discontinued, hence it is expected to provide a more comfortable ride.

The said update might sound familiar as its smaller MPV sibling, the all-new Toyota Avanza, has undergone a similar change late last year. Part of the update could also include a shift from a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) to a front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout.

Under the hood, no details have been made known as well. It is expected to offer a wide array of engine choices including hybrid, gasoline, and diesel powertrains. Meanwhile, reports suggest that the old RWD versions of the Innova will continually be sold in the fleet market with the same engine options.

The all-new 2023 Toyota Innova is projected to be unveiled in November this year. More details will likely come up as we get closer to the launch date.
