There will no longer be a gasoline-powered Innova.

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has officially launched the facelifted 2021 Innova, shaking up the MPV segment. It will go up against the likes of the Maxus G50, Geely Okavango, among others.

Here's the 2021 Toyota Innova in the metal

Aside from getting a refreshed fascia, TMP has revamped the model variant lineup for the 2021 Innova. There will now only be a total of six variants that all come with a 2.8-liter diesel engine. Similar to the Fortuner, the 2021 Innova will no longer have a gasoline variant.

Facelifted Toyota Innova

The facelifted 2021 Toyota Innova shares a bit of similarity to the new Hilux due to the grille design. Speaking of which, the Toyota Innova now gets a larger grille that comes with horizontal slats. Toyota’s MPV also gets a more aggressive bumper as compared to the outgoing model. The refreshed fascia is further highlighted by the restyled turn signal design that looks like small fangs when the Innova is viewed from the front. Completing the facelifted look is the slightly revised headlight design, which comes in LED for the top-spec Innova V variant.

It still has the same distinctive look

Turning at the side, the Innova still carries similar design cues that are seen in the outgoing model. It still has the same character lines that run from front to the rear as well as chrome door handles. The side mirrors also look similar to the old model. Of note, the top-spec V variant gets a set of 17-inch alloy wheels while the G and E trims get 16-inch alloys. On the other hand, the entry-level J variant comes equipped with a set of 16-inch steel.

Subtle changes on the rear

Nothing much has changed to the Innova’s rear as well. It still gets the same taillight design as well as the same look for the bumper. However, the noticeable change that you can spot is the glossy black trim on the tailgate, which is placed between the Innova’s taillights.

Interior

2021 Toyota Innova still features the same dashboard layout

The interior layout of the 2021 Toyota Innova features carryover designs from the outgoing model. It has the same dashboard design, center console, automatic climate control, and steering wheel. The Innova V variant still sports a two-tone interior theme of black and brown. Of note, TMP said that the top-spec Innova V comes with a new two-tone interior color of Noble Brown and Black. Even the instrument cluster is not altered for the 2021 Innova. Well, this is expected since this Innova is a facelifted model only.

As such, the V and G variants are still equipped with ambient lighting, foldable seatback table, and a one-touch tumble down second-row seat. In addition, the 2021 Innova features a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen that’s integrated with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (for V, G, and E variants). The entry-level J variant, on the other hand, is equipped with 2DIN headunit.

The 2021 Innova can still accommodate up to eight individuals including the driver. But, the top-spec Innova V can only seat up to seven individuals since it comes with second-row captain seats.

Tech & Safety

The top-of-the-line Innova V is packed with tech and safety features that can make your drives more convenient. It is equipped with seven airbags (driver, front passenger, side, curtain, and knee). All 2021 Toyota Innova variants come standard with an anti-lock brake system with electronic brakeforce distribution, brake assist, vehicle stability control, hill start assist control, and Isofix. Meanwhile, the V and G variants feature speed-sensing door locks, a reverse camera as well as parking sensors.

Engine

All variants of the 2021 Toyota Innova are powered by a 2.8-liter diesel engine. The engine can be mated to either a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The manual transmission delivers 168 hp and 343 Nm of torque while the automatic gearbox puts out 172 hp and 360 Nm.
