Toyota GR GT Cup finalists set to compete in Asia Finals in Malaysia

They will represent the Philippines in the virtual world of racing.

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) announced the winners of the National Finals of the 2023 Toyota Gazoo Racing Gran Turismo Cup Philippines (TGR GT Cup PH). The winners will be heading to represent the country at the 2023 TGR GT Cup Asia Finals in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The winners in the sporting class are Russel Reyes, who took the championship, Matthew Ang in second, and Luis Moreno in third.

Reyes finished in second at last year’s National Finals and sixth in the Asia Finals. Meanwhile, Ang is a newcomer in the class albeit he secured second place in the promotional class last year. As for Moreno, he was the TGR GT Cup Philippines champion in 2021. But this will be his first participation at the Asia Finals.

The racers battled it out at three different tracks in different GR cars. The first race was on Trial Mountain in the GR86, while the second race was at the Sardegna – Rally Cross in the GR Yaris RZ. The third and final race was held at Mount Panorama in the GR Supra Car ’19.

The junior class saw David Enzo Ison in first, followed by Russo Gabriel Formoso and Vito Manas, respectively. Meanwhile, Stanley Theodore Golez is the champion in the promotional class. He is trailed by Benedict Salido in second and Jan Rene Aldiosa in third.

“We have a strong roster of racers this year,” shared TMP Vice President for Marketing Services Elvin Luciano. “This is the first time we are sending players overseas for the Asia finals. Having watched Russel, Matthew, and Luis in the local and national rounds, we are confident that they will make us proud as Team Philippines.”

Toyota continues to support e-racers

The national finals happened during the two-day 2023 Toyota Gazoo Festival – which was attended by more than 6,000 people. Aside from the GT Cup, the event held other exciting motorsport-driven activities such as the Gymkhana challenge joined by Toyota Motor Chairman Akio “Morizo” Toyoda.
