SsangYong continues to have its sight fixed when it comes to new model development. This is despite the financial uncertainties that the Korean automaker is facing as it filed for bankruptcy last year.
SsangYong J100 is an all-electric midsize SUV
SsangYong Motors shared a couple of its upcoming vehicles that are meant to accelerate the car brand’s new car development program. The Korean automaker is showing that it is ready to make the electric vehicle (EV) shift as part of renewing the confidence in the brand for any future merger and acquisition (M&A).
“We are establishing a strong foothold for corporate rehabilitation through a successful M&A and putting our very best efforts into new car development by addressing the rapidly changing automotive trends,” said SsangYong Motors Receiver Yong Won Chung.
Aside from the Korando e-Motion, SsangYong is developing a new medium-size electric SUV under the project name J100, with the plan of launching it next year. According to the car brand, the J100 features a new, modern, authentic SUV, with styling cues based on SsangYong’s design language.
It has a commanding stance
From the looks of it, the SsangYong J100 comes with a bold and composed stance when viewed at the front. The sketch image suggests that it has sharp-looking headlights that are accented by daytime running lights. You also can’t help but notice the large and muscular front bumper of the J100. It also seems that SsangYong plans to integrate a skid plate into the J100 to make it a more off-road-ready machine.
Turning at the side, the SsangYong J100 e-SUV has prominent fender flares that add muscle to its side profile. The sketch hints that it will come with two-tone exterior paint, and equipped with roof rails for added functionality.
SsangYong J100 will come with distinctive taillights
The rear is fitted with distinctive taillights that somehow remind you of the Ford Explorer. The J100 could also come with a spoiler, and a swing-type tailgate. On the other hand, the design concept for the interior has yet to be released by SsangYong.
Powertrain details are also scarce as of the moment as the Korean automaker has yet to share more info about it. However, reports state that the J100 e-SUV will share its powertrain with the Korando e-Motion, which could feature a 140kW electric motor powered by a 61.5kWh lithium-ion battery.
