NLEX Corporation announces its plan to install solar panels in 36 more toll plazas along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX).
NLEX and SCTEX will receive solar panels for their toll plazas
This plan by NLEX Corporation was initially reported back in October 2021. If one remembers, it seeks to increase the number of solar-powered toll plazas along NLEX Corporation’s expressways. As a follow-up to the latter, the company has reported that the project is expected to be completed this year. Currently, the company is placing solar panels on a total of 21 NLEX toll plazas and 15 SCTEX toll plazas.
These solar panels will help reduce carbon emissions as they can generate power from sunlight alone. Moreover, this environmentally-friendly equipment can improve energy efficiency and contribute to cleaner air along the expressway.
According to the NLEX Corporation, the aforementioned solar panels can produce an estimated 22,762 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per month at NLEX, and 13,961 kWh of electricity per month at SCTEX.
Upon completion, the solar project in the 36 toll plazas will follow the solar-powered Balintawak Barrier, Bocaue Barrier, Mexico Toll Plaza, Angeles Toll Plaza, San Fernando Southbound Toll Plaza, Karuhatan Interchange Toll Plaza, and Meycauayan Southbound Toll Plaza.
The company is growing sustainability in its operation
In addition to the company’s sustainable solutions for its expressways is the use of solar-powered closed-circuit television cameras and roadway lightning.
“Part of our strategic priorities is to continue incorporating renewable energy in our operations. This way, we can drive operational efficiency while being environmentally responsible and creating positive impact for our stakeholders,” said NLEX Corporation President and General Manager J. Luigi L. Bautista.
Another initiative NLEX Corporation rolled out to improve its toll plazas is the installation of upgraded RFID scanners. These can aid motorists traversing the company’s expressway by ensuring faster toll gate transactions for Easytrip users.
Note that Easytrip RFID is used on expressways under Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), the parent company of NLEX Corporation, including NLEX, Manila-Cavite Expressway (CAVITEX), Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX), C5 Link, and SCTEX.
