Nissan has put all talks into rest as it launched the Z Proto. This is an indication that the Japanese car brand is on its way to launch a new generation model of the iconic Z sports car.
What you’re seeing now is the prototype car in bright yellow paint, which gives you a preview of the things to come for the new Z.
Nissan Z Proto: First Look
The launch of the new Z was first hinted in the Nissan A-Z teaser video. Now, Nissan says the Z Proto is a vehicle that pays full respect to the 50 years of Z heritage. The Z Proto comes with a new design as well as an upgraded powertrain with a manual transmission.

The exterior of the Z Proto is sleek, smooth, and clean. It doesn’t come with aggressive styling cues that are usually seen in a performance-ready vehicle. The front end of the Z Proto is like a tamed beast and has less angular design than the current Z.
The shape of the hood and the teardrop-shaped LED headlights of the Z Proto are both unmistakable reminders of the original Z, according to Nissan. Moreover, the bright yellow paint is a nod to a popular paint scheme on both the first-generation 240Z and the 300ZX.
The Nissan Z Proto looks stunning when viewed from the side
The side of the Z Proto is rather more striking as compared to its front end. The roofline flows from the nose to the squared-off rear. It also has sharp character lines that run from the front to the rear. These lines also give the Z Proto a striking presence when viewed from the side. The prototype is also fitted with lightweight carbon fiber trims on the side skirts and it sits at 19-inch allow wheels.

Going to the rear, Nissan says the taillights of the Z Proto took design inspiration from the 300ZX. Like the front end, the rear of the vehicle is sleek and has a clean design. You could even say that this prototype looks like an electric vehicle due to how it looks.
Black and yellow interior
The interior of the Z Proto comes with a dark theme along with yellow stitching, glossy black trims, and splashes of silver. At first glance, you can already tell that the Z Proto has a modern interior as seen on its 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and large infotainment system.
Nissan shared that its interior design team sought advice from professional motorsports legends to give the Z Proto an ideal sports car cabin. With that, the Japanese automaker added that the Z Proto comes with a deep-dish steering wheel that offers the driver quick access controls without losing its vintage aesthetic.

Under the hood, the Z Proto is powered by a V6 twin-turbocharged engine that’s mated to a six-speed manual transmission. However, Nissan has yet to release the official powertrain output of the Z Proto. The automaker said that “work is now underway to synchronize the power with the grace and control that has defined the Z for the past 50 years.”
