Isuzu Philippines Corporation (IPC) is taking its modern PUV portfolio up a notch with the unveiling of the new PUV Class 2 design.
New Isuzu PUV Class 2
The new Isuzu PUV Class 2 strengthens IPC’s support for the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP), coming with a new design that aims to enhance the experience for drivers and commuters.
Similar to old jeepneys, the new model now has two side doors for the driver and front passenger. It improves the entry/exit points of the vehicle, which is important, especially during rush hours.
For the convenience of passengers, the Japanese automaker fitted redesigned panoramic windows, cushioned seats, and new luggage compartments. Note that these are aligned with the updated Philippine National Standard (PNS) Guidelines for Class 2 PUV.
The new model gets changes inside and out
Like other modern PUVs, the new Isuzu PUV Class 2 is equipped with onboard amenities such as a GPS unit, an automated payment system, a built-in monitor, and digital signboards, among others.
While IPC didn’t mention any powertrain details in the press release, the new model is expected to still be powered by the same 3.0-liter 4JH1-TC inline-4 turbodiesel as the outgoing iteration. It makes 105 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual comes standard across the Isuzu modern PUV range.
Isuzu wants to make it more convenient for commuters
The unveiling of the redesigned PUV Class 2 was held at the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board’s (LTFRB) NCR Office last April 28. It was attended by key representatives from IPC, Department of Transportation (DOTr), LTFRB, Pasang Masda Jeepney Transport Service Corp, Yuchengco Group, and Del Monte Motor Works, Inc.
“Our chosen PUVs will be our workhorse for decades, so we need a PUV that is durable and can give reassurance to the safety and convenience of our drivers and passengers,” said Pasang Masda Jeepney Transport Service Corp. President Roberto “Ka-Obet” Martin.
“We all love our old jeepneys due to its durability and reliability, and today, we are providing you the same core values plus more. With the new Isuzu PUV, you don’t just get durability, reliability, and fuel efficiency, but also an elevated comfort and convenience,” said IPC Vice President for Sales Yasuhiko Oyama.
Over at IPC’s passenger lineup, the company also recently updated the designs of its two entries, the D-Max and the mu-X. The two vehicles now come with more premium-looking finishes, as well as new exterior color options.
