It did particularly well in the side impact crash test as it provided good protection for an adult’s head, neck, chest, and waist. It likewise gave good protection to an adult’s head, neck, chest, hips, and knees during the frontal impact crash test.

In terms of child occupant protection (COP), it was found that the Triton’s second-row seats were compatible with a good number of aftermarket child seats in many mounting positions. Particularly noteworthy is its perfect score of 16 out of 16 for the COP frontal impact test and side impact test. In total, the pickup truck received a weighted score of 17.52 out of 20 for the COP category.
Both test results mentioned above are indicative of the truck’s well-designed crumple zones, sturdy body structure, and airbag functionality. Of note, the unit that was tested came standard with dual front airbags and knee airbags. Side and curtain airbags are available on the higher-end trims.
Under the Safety Assist category, the ASEAN NCAP also noted great performance for the Mitsubishi-made truck’s automatic emergency braking system and blind-spot monitoring. The latter was consistent in detecting road obstructions, while the latter was able to track moving objects that were passing through its side blind spots. So for this category, it was given a weighted score of 14.44 out of 20.
