Mitsubishi’s midsize SUV had a good sales run last month.

The Montero Sport remains one of the most desirable midsize SUV models in the country today. In fact, it has maintained its position as one of the top-selling Mitsubishi models currently available in the Philippines. This fact is backed up by the October 2020 sales report released by Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC).

The Mitsubishi Montero Sport's macho but the futuristic-looking front end

To be more specific, 533 units of the Mitsubishi-made midsize SUV were sold in that month alone. That means an increase of 232 percent over the September 2020 figures. This is despite the fact that the Philippine economy is still experiencing the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As MMPC CEO Mutsuhiro Oshikiri had put it, the said SUV provides genuine all-road performance, bears a stylishly modern design, and has a wealth of amenities that any driver or passenger would want in a vehicle. A case in point is the Mitsubishi Montero Sport’s eight-inch instrument cluster and cruise control, which comes standard on all trim levels.

Mechanically, the highpoint of the Montero Sport of course is its 179 horsepower inline-4 turbodiesel engine, combined with an eight-speed automatic or six-speed manual gearbox. It can also come with a Super Select 4x4 drivetrain.

The Super Select is still one of the best 4x4 systems to this day

For safety-conscious people, the Mitsubishi-made midsize SUV is well equipped. All variants come standard with anti-lock braking with electronic brake distribution, ISOFIX, and disc brakes all-around. The GT 4x4 AT variant is the most technologically advanced, as it comes with several useful driver-assist features like blind-spot warning and lane change assist, forward collision mitigation, rear cross-traffic alert, and many other safety features.

And as we’ve said already, the Montero Sport bears one of the most recognizable designs for a midsize SUV in the market today. Its front end is both futuristic and macho looking, and its size affords it a significant presence on the road.
