Needless to say, Toyota vehicles are affixed in people’s minds as one of the most reliable vehicles in the world. This is probably one of the reasons why Filipino car buyers choose Toyota as compared to other brands.
The reliability factor of Toyota made it the top-selling car brand in the Philippines for the longest time now. Now, the Lexus brand is under Toyota and serves as its luxury division. As such, Lexus is one of the popular luxury vehicle brands in the Philippines due to its overall styling.

However, a study conducted in the United States revealed that Toyota is not the most reliable car brand. According to Consumer Report’s 2020 Auto Reliability Survey, the most reliable car brand in the U.S. is Mazda. Consumer Reports stated that the key to Mazda’s success is “it redesigns models conservatively—and has avoided introducing risky new powertrains and infotainment systems.”
Not only did the ‘less is more’ approach of Mazda gained its reputation as the most reliable car brand, but also helped the Mazda 3 bag the World Car Design of the Year for 2020. As such, you could expect that Mazda will further strive to make its model lineup even better in the following years.

Toyota and Lexus came in second and third respectively for reliability. The survey says that all Toyota models have average or better reliability, while the Lexus has outstanding reliability except for its premium LS sedan that comes with below-average reliability.
“A car might be great to drive and have all the features you want, but all that won’t matter to you if you have to keep going back to the dealer for repairs,” said Jake Fisher, senior director of auto testing at Consumer Reports. “We use extensive feedback from owners to help you avoid hassles by choosing a reliable car.”
