The Japanese automaker’s first PHEV model.

Mazda made a huge announcement back in 2021 regarding its plans to expand its crossover/SUV lineup with five new models. One of which, the Mazda CX-60, is slated to arrive on our shores soon.

The Mazda CX-60 is a midsize crossover that debuted as the Japanese automaker’s first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV). It is part of the company’s Large Product Group, which consists of new Mazda models including the CX-70, CX-80, and CX-90. Meanwhile, the U.S.-exclusive Mazda CX-50 is part of the Small Product Group.

Both the CX-60 and CX-80 are bound for markets with narrower roads and smaller parking lots such as Europe and Japan. Now, thanks to a “Save the Date” email invite accompanied by a teaser image sent by Mazda Philippines, our country appears to be part of the said target markets.

The edited teaser image suggests that Mazda Philippines is indeed preparing for the CX-60’s debut. Squint your eyes towards the license plate, then you’ll spot the CX-60.

While the specifications are yet to be disclosed, let’s check out what we can expect from the Mazda CX-60 based on the global models.

Exterior-wise, the Mazda CX-60 features a familiar look but comes with new design cues to set it apart from the current offerings. One of the most eye-catching exterior bits is the headlight design, which has the same silhouette as the one in the teaser image.

As the nomenclature suggests, the crossover is larger than the Mazda CX-5 but smaller than the CX-8 (except for the width).

Inside, the CX-60 is fitted with a two-row seating configuration. The dashboard gets a straightforward finish, with the infotainment screen mounted on top of it. It is also equipped with a panoramic sunroof, allowing the vehicle to provide an open cabin feel.

Under the hood, Mazda is offering a wide array of engine options including gasoline and diesel hybrid powertrains. The PHEV setup is completed by a 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G inline-4 gasoline and a 100 kW electric motor, producing 323 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. It sends power to the rear wheels, with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) option made available. Of note, Mazda PH has yet to announce the official powertrain setup.
