The company’s official racing club, Team MSCC Mazda Miata, was victorious at the Cup’s Class 1 and Open A categories in a Mazda MX-5, also known as the Miata, completing 89 laps with a best time of 1:56.054 around the Batangas Racing Circuit. It also secured second place in the 2-hour race.

Behind the wheel were Team Mv racing veterans Angie King, Tyson Sy, and Windy Imperial. The drivers were able to come out on top despite racing on tricky wet track conditions due to non-stop rain, finishing with a 19.216-second gap over the second placer.

In terms of specifications, the Mazda MX-5 endurance racing car is identical to the MSCC Miata Spec Series race car. But the team had some minor tweaks to the suspension and chassis to keep the sports car in check for the four-hour-long race.

The drivers proved the sports car's good performance and reliability

Under the hood, the endurance racing car was running stock with its 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine good for 181 horsepower and 205 Nm of torque. The engine sends power exclusively to the rear wheels via a 6-speed Skyactiv-Drive manual transmission.

The Mazda MX-5 clocked its race-winning times under the “Imagine” livery. Its digitally-printed vinyl wrap that uses contrasting colors is said to exude “a sense of power, motion, and energy.” Meanwhile, the race number, #55, is a homage to the Mazda 787B that had a historic victory at the 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans.

“It is no surprise that the Mazda MX-5 is the most-raced car in the world. Its performance at the 4-hour Kagitingan Cup proves not just the outright capability of the sports car, but its reliability and durability as well,” said Mazda Philippines President and CEO Steven Tan.
