This is in compliance with IATF’s social distancing regulations.

The number of COVID-19 cases in the country is starting to rise again which will lead establishments to impose stricter health protocols to keep its operations safe. As for the Land Transportation Office (LTO), the agency decided to extend the motor vehicle registrations of vehicles with a plate number ending in ‘5’ (five).

The latest advisory from LTO

With the official announcement, the concerned vehicles get a validity extension until June 30, 2022. This means that no penalty shall be imposed by the agency, giving motorists more time to renew their registrations amid the health restrictions.

Minimum health safety protocols should be followed within LTO’s premises including the wearing of face masks and the observance of social distancing. This will help avoid instances such as the suspension of operations in various LTO offices earlier this year, which occurred as employees underwent swab testing and facilities have to be disinfected.

The decision follows the recent extension given to vehicles with a plate number ending in “4” (four). These vehicles can have their respective registrations renewed until May 31, 2022. The extension was granted to prioritize the health and safety of LTO’s motorists, employees, and business partners.

The extension was granted in consideration of health protocols

As for vehicles with plate numbers ending in 6, 7, 8, etc., the LTO hasn’t put out a word about whether it will give an extension or not. Despite the extension, the agency is encouraging motorists to avoid waiting for the last day before renewing their registrations to avoid overcrowding, enabling them to observe social distancing at LTO branches.

In related news, the LTO extended the validity of driver’s licenses, student permits, and conductor’s licenses expiring in April and May. Licenses or permits that expired last April get an extended validity until June 30, 2022, while those that are expiring this month can be renewed until July 31, 2022.
