In response to the rising COVID-19 cases.

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is taking precautionary measures as the COVID-19 cases in the country are starting to rise. That said, the government agency decided to extend the validity of driver’s licenses that will expire this April and May.

An extension is given to driver's licenses expiring in April and May

With the extension, motorists have more time to prepare and choose a date convenient for them considering that few concerned establishments could be temporarily closed due to health and safety protocols. Moreover, LTO branches shouldn’t be as packed, promoting social distancing.

The agency is giving two months of extension for driver’s licenses, student permits, and conductor’s licenses. This also covers medical certificates so motorists don’t need to spend for a retest. See the list of extensions for the said months below:

For those who will renew their licenses, the LTO is reminding them to follow minimum safety protocols such as the wearing of face masks and observing social distancing. This way, motorists can help curb the rising number of COVID-19 cases, as well as help prevent some LTO branches from temporarily ceasing operations.

It is still unclear when will the agency start rolling out its new driver’s license design which was unveiled by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) last week. The new design replaces the blue theme of the front part of the card with a pearl white motif. Meanwhile, the back part remains identical.

Be advised

In related news, the LTO recently extended the registration of motor vehicles with plate numbers ending in 4 (four). With the extension, the covered motor vehicles now have an extended validity until May 31, 2022. The agency is encouraging motorists to renew their motor vehicle registrations as soon as possible and not wait for the last day to avoid overcrowding its offices.
