It can produce around 158,400 motorcycle plates per month.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) continues to work hand-in-hand with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to modernize the latter’s operations. Its latest effort is the introduction of LTO’s second plate-making robot which is now ready to manufacture license plates.

LTO's second plate-making robot is now ready

According to the government agency, the plate-making robot is capable of manufacturing 450 motorcycle plates per hour “in an efficient and systematic manner.” With that number in mind, the new machine can produce 7,200 plates a day or 158,400 plates in a month – that is if a two-shift per day basis is observed.

The new plate-making robot will complement the first LTO plate-making facility. It was established in 2018 to produce motor vehicle plates. Both the machines will fast track the production and distribution of license plates to help secure Philippine roads more by providing proper identification of each car and motorcycle.

With the second plate-making robot, issues regarding outsourced LTO license plates are now reduced. This is important considering that a lot of vehicle owners didn’t receive their license plates due to the supplier’s inability to comply with required custom duties. The government agency now has its own facilities to manufacture the plates.

The latest initiative to improve LTO's operations

Moreover, one can expect that the long use of a temporary plate number should be reduced. Making a temporary plate can be complicated for some considering the required layout imposed by LTO. The new machine is capable of producing many license plates in a day which should be convenient for motorists.

Aside from LTO’s second plate-making robot, the agency recently introduced new facilities to modernize its operations including the new licensing office at the PITX, and a new command center. The new licensing office is built with ‘state-of-the-art’ facilities to accommodate around 150 clients a day, while the new command center provides surveillance and security to motorists.
