The facelift version is looking promising.

The new Lamborghini Urus is itching to make its debut as the performance SUV took on the famous uphill track at Pikes Peak in North America.

Arriving on the track with its eyes on the prize, the new Urus grabbed the best Pikes Peak Hill Climb record for SUVs with a 10:32.064 time. This means that the new model bested its previous time, as well as the current race day record of 10:49.902 by Rhys Millen in a Bentley Bentayga set in 2018.

“The decision to test ourselves at Pikes Peak reflects the Lamborghini spirit of ‘expect the unexpected,’ and demonstrates the outstanding performance of the new Urus model to be presented shortly,” said Automobili Lamborghini Chief Technical Officer Rouven Mohr.

Simone Faggioli was tasked to push the Italian marque’s SUV wrapped in camouflage to the limit to showcase its performance ahead of its premiere. He is a Hillclimb champion and Pirelli test driver who also holds the 2018 rear-wheel-drive (RWD) record set during the 2018 ‘Race to the Clouds’ on Pikes Peak.

A new record holder for SUVs at Pikes Peak

As for specifics, the Pikes Peak Hill Climb SUV record-holder comes with Pirelli semi-slick tires used for the first time, a roll cage, and race seats with a six-point harness. The new Urus also retains the standard twin-turbo V8 engine, modified to comply with the safety regulations of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

“Pikes Peak is the most famous Hillclimb event in the world, as well as being extremely challenging for the car: the uneven track layout tests the chassis’ balance; the significant altitude differences stress the powertrain, and the weather can change very rapidly between start to finish,” added Mohr.

The new model is already starting to build excitement ahead of its launch

The new Lamborghini Urus is expected to come out sometime this August. It could be one of the last Urus models to utilize a full internal combustion engine (ICE) as reports suggest that the performance SUV’s future is electric. For now, we are looking forward to what the facelift version will offer as previewed at the renowned Hillclimb event.
