These are what make Kia’s latest crossover among its local best-sellers.

The Kia Stonic subcompact crossover continues to make quite the splash in the local market, following its digital launch by Kia Philippines in October 2020. The model managed to get into the brand’s top three best-sellers so far, with its combination of looks, tech, and competitive pricing.

The Kia Stonic will stoke the flames of an already raging crossover war

To better demonstrate the vehicle’s features, Kia Philippines recently organized a media test drive event. Automotive scribes took the wheel of six Stonic units and drove them from Metro Manila to Tagaytay, and participants were able to experience what Kia calls the “5S Formula.”

Style

In keeping with the Stonic’s “Style That’s Iconic” mantra, vibrant colors give life to the model’s contemporary aesthetics, which were penned by no less than erstwhile Kia design boss Peter Schreyer. The trademark Tiger Nose grille still dominates the fascia, flanked by projector-type halogen headlamps with LED daytime running lamps.

Roof rails and a rear spoiler garnish convey a sporty attitude. Even if the Stonic was designed primarily as an urban daily driver, it can also tackle out of town drives with a ground clearance of 185mm, helped by a set of 16-inch two-tone alloy wheels.

Space

Despite the Stonic’s compact dimensions, occupants were treated to comfortable seating positions throughout the journey, made possible by the model’s generous 2,570mm wheelbase.

The cabin features room for up to five occupants, with the luggage space expandable to 325 liters just by folding the rear seats flat. This ensures versatility, whether the Stonic will be used for work days or enjoying weekends.

Shift

Fuel efficiency is one of the Stonic’s key strengths, with a 6-speed automatic transmission harnessing the 1.5L dual CVVT gasoline engine’s 97 hp and 132 Nm of torque. The tiptronic shifter provides drivers with the opportunity to take control of rowing through the cogs for more spirited driving.

A Smart Entry and push engine start make enjoyment effortless, and the fun doesn’t stop even when it’s time to park the Stonic, with a rear-view camera making it easier to watch out for hazards.

Sounds

The Stonic’s interior is brimming with tech, starting with the 8-inch touchscreen audio head unit that comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Stream multimedia content through USB or Bluetooth, then bask in the sounds playing through the six speakers that come standard. A 12-volt power outlet keeps devices charged even on long drives.

A 3.5-inch LCD multi-function display rests between the large tachometer and speedometer gauges, while the single zone automatic climate control helps keep occupants cool despite the blazing heat outside.

Service

Kia’s latest crossover comes equipped with modern safety features for occupant protection such as front airbags, anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, and hill start assist.

More importantly, every purchase of a Stonic is backed by a 5-year/160,000-km warranty. A 24/7 free roadside assistance service is also offered, which covers benefits such as emergency towing, personal assistance, minor onsite repairs, and medical assistance.
