This pickup’s not only strong but safe too.

It’s been close to a year since Isuzu launched the third-generation D-Max pickup in Thailand. With bigger dimensions, a redesigned exterior and cabin, as well as engines that are more powerful and efficient over the previous model, the new D-Max promises to take the fight to its rivals in the competitive pickup segment.

2020 has been a good year so far for the third-generation Isuzu D-Max.

Apart from its reputation in diesel performance and reliability, the D-Max also gets high marks in terms of occupant safety. Following its exceptional showing at the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) crash tests in March this year, the pickup garnered another perfect score at the Australian NCAP evaluation. An impressive feat, considering that Isuzu customers Down Under only got their hands on the new D-Max very recently.

Key to the D-Max’s stellar safety performance in the Australian assessment is the inclusion of Isuzu’s Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), which uses stereo cameras to detect obstacles in real-world driving conditions whether in daytime or night. ADAS also features a multi-collision brake to reduce the chances of further impacts once the vehicle has been involved in a collision.

Other crucial features of ADAS include Lane Departure Warning and Prevention, Lane Keep Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Traffic Sign Recognition, Blind Spot Monitor, Forward Collision Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking, and AT Pedal Misapplication Mitigation.

The new D-Max demonstrated both strength and smarts during the assessment.

The new D-Max was previously tested on the ASEAN NCAP with a total score of 83.16 out of 100, which translates to a 5-star safety rating for occupant protection. It was the first pickup tested under the current 2017-2020 protocol, passing with flying colors thanks to its array of passive and active safety features. The model has outsold its closest rival, the Toyota Hilux, by more than 18,000 units in Thailand in the first half of 2020, resulting in Isuzu’s massive 45.3 percent market share in the segment.
