Hyundai Motor Group announced the South Korean city of Busan’s bid to host World Expo 2030 at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.
Hyundai Motor Group attended the 2023 WEF with eco-friendly cars
The Group’s latest initiative was to roll out a fleet of 45 eco-friendly models at the WEF held from January 16 to 20. Included in the fleet were 18 electrified Genesis G80s, eight GV60s, four electrified GV70s, and 15 Hyundai Santa Fe plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs).
Moreover, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 also participated in the campaign. Units of this all-electric compact crossover could be found next to the dedicated electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at the event. These units were tasked to provide emergency charging using the EV’s Vehicle to Load (V2L) feature.
For the uninitiated, Hyundai Motor Group is the parent company of Korean automakers including Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis. This is why the Group managed to bring in not only Hyundai cars but also models from its Genesis luxury vehicle division.
Charging stations were set up
The fleet sported Busan’s World Expo 2030 logo to promote the city to the global political and business leaders in attendance, as well as Swiss citizens and other visitors. They were also used as official transportation for the forum’s Korean delegates.
To combat winter road conditions, the fleet is equipped with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system and winter tires. These help the Group’s cars maintain traction on the area’s surrounding slippery roads, ensuring safety for drivers and visitors. An on-site technical team was also on standby to provide support.
Genesis cars also supported the city of Busan's bid to host the World Expo 2030
Other initiatives the Hyundai Motor Group rolled out to support its goal were promoting Busan’s bid at the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) General Assembly in Paris in June and November last year; rolling out promotional banners and brochures during the official vehicle delivery ceremony at the G20 Bali Summit in Jakarta, Indonesia last November; and sharing the bid through social media channels.
