Last year, General Motors (GM) unveiled the uber-cool GM Hummer electric-powered pickup truck. Suffice to say, it dropped a couple of jaws. For the most part, people were excited for the return of the Hummer marque but more were pleasantly surprised when it came with a powerful electric powertrain. So yes, it guzzles electricity instead of fossil fuels, unlike the majority of Hummer for sale in the Philippines that you have known before.
Just a couple of days ago, General Motors doubled down on the resurrected marque by announcing its plan to release the Hummer SUV. Just like its pickup truck brother, this model will be propelled by an electric motor.
It makes a bit less at 830 horsepower compared to the Hummer pickup truck’s 1000 horsepower. Regardless, that’s still a lot of horses for an SUV.

For torque, the car brand claims that the Hummer SUV can produce up to 15,591 Nm, which is around the same amount as what the pickup truck can make.
Suffice to say, you’ll have no issues when it comes to pulling trailers. By being an SUV, you’ll also get more comfort, trunk space, and possibly more seating capacity.

Do note also that the Hummer SUV will be smaller than the pickup model. More specifically, it will come with a shorter wheelbase. This might mean better handling and maneuverability in off-road conditions.
It shares a lot of parts with its pickup truck sibling
While the SUV will have some advantages, it has further trade-offs apart from the aforementioned lower horsepower figure. This concerns its electric range.
To put things in perspective, the pickup truck has a maximum range of 563 kilometers. The smaller SUV, which presumably has a smaller battery pack, has a shorter range of 482 kilometers. But still, that’s a respectable distance considering the power the thing can churn out.
For now, General Motors is planning to launch the Hummer EV pickup truck around the fourth quarter of this year. The Hummer SUV EV will then follow much later in 2023.

While the SUV’s launch is a couple of years away, GM says that it will have a starting price of $105,595 or around Php 5.13 million in the current exchange rate.
That’s a whole lot of cash for an SUV, but that’s just the price you have to pay for that amount of horsepower and torque. Of note, it is more affordable than the more powerful Hummer pickup truck, which in turn starts at Php 5.47 million.
