2022 Honda HR-V RS Turbo could be offered in the Philippine market

Honda PH is reportedly studying that option carefully.

Honda Cars Philippines (HCPI) has launched the third-generation HR-V for Filipino customers, offering the subcompact crossover in two trim levels. For those who find the range a bit wanting, a flagship RS Turbo variant might be just the ticket.

The V Turbo is the top Honda HR-V variant for now

The possibility was broached by HCPI General Manager Atty. Louie Soriano at the launch event for the HR-V. He was reacting to an observation made by Philkotse about the higher-spec HR-V V Turbo trim bearing a strong resemblance to the HR-V RS Turbo variant that is currently available in Indonesia.

“There is a feasibility study now, so we might be introducing the RS in the future,” he said. “It all depends, we have to see also the market for this one, whether it’s going to be accepted or not.”

Atty. Soriano adds that the main consideration HCPI is looking at involves cost-efficiency, especially with the HR-V V Turbo’s sticker price of Php 1,598,000. This is already within striking distance of the Php 1,678,000 that the bigger CR-V compact crossover is asking for the base S gasoline variant

The Honda HR-V RS Turbo in Indonesia offers extra features

If and when the HR-V RS Turbo arrives here, expect the price gap to be even smaller, which explains why HCPI is still studying the matter. In the Indonesian market, the HR-V RS comes with all the features of the Philippine-spec V Turbo, with some notable extras.

There’s the exterior RS aero body kit for one thing, as well as a hands-free power tailgate with walk-away close. The RS Turbo also offers a panoramic glass roof, along with a remote engine start feature. For safety, six airbags are standard, in addition to Honda LaneWatch which uses cameras mounted on the exterior mirrors to monitor blind spots.

Mum's the word for HCPI regarding the second-generation BR-V

Another burning question is whether the second-generation BR-V 7-seat subcompact crossover will be making its way to our shores. HCPI remains tight-lipped on the matter, but we have a hunch that the automaker will have some positive news regarding this model within the year.
