Geely is known to be one of the car brands that pursue the advancement of methanol vehicle technologies. The Chinese automaker wants to develop eco-friendly alternatives such as methanol especially now that the market is shifting towards electric vehicles (EVs), whatever the outcome may be.

Now, Geely is expanding its methanol technologies in Europe in collaboration with Circle K Denmark, Aalborg University, and Fonden Green Hub Denmark. Together, the partnership is conducting a 15-month test and demonstration trial for green e-methanol fuel and methanol vehicles in Denmark.
Part of the collaboration is the use of two methanol versions of the Geely Emgrand and a Farizon M100 heavy truck which were provided to the car brand’s Danish partners for testing. These vehicles will promote the use of green e-methanol and green mobility in Europe where strict emission regulations are imposed.
Geely Emgrand
The reason why Geely chose Denmark is because of the country’s reputation as a global leader in sustainability, pledging to reduce its carbon emission by 70 percent by 2030. But despite that, the country is still facing issues of renewable energy as it is weather dependent, making it prone to fluctuations.
As such, the use of green methanol is an optimal solution for Denmark to store renewable power. The Geely Emgrand achieved an average well-to-wheel emissions of 46g of CO2 per km, which is lower than EVs in most countries. Geely said that it will undergo EU certification for its methanol vehicles in the future in support of carbon neutrality.
Farizon M100
Many car brands have started to unveil their electrification plans including Geely-owned Volvo which aims to go all-electric by 2030. Geely isn’t giving up on non-EV alternatives such as methanol technologies as it shares a common sustainable goal with electrification. Green methanol is now available and can be built quickly at a minimal cost.
