Geely Coolray gets revamped styling, four-cylinder engine in China 

In China, the Geely Binyue, locally known as the Coolray, is getting an update. In contrast to the facelifted Coolray which debuted in its home country back in 2021, this new one’s front fascia departs quite a bit from the previous facelifted model.

This is the latest version of the Geely Coolray. 

To be exact, it now has an expansive mesh grille, which spans almost every section of the crossover’s front end. It gets a pair of slimmer headlamps, while the “vents” on each side of the front end now have this arrow-like shape. All in all, the new Coolray now looks more like a Lexus. 

The rear gets some significant changes as well. It now gets a sharper-looking design with the addition of a black-colored mesh just above the quad tailpipes, a set of smaller and thinner taillights, and some equally sharp-looking reflectors. The wing also received a more elaborate look complete with what could be described as sharp “horns”. 

The most significant addition to this version of the Geely Coolray though is in connection to its engine. It is reportedly getting a 1.5-liter inline-4 gasoline engine to replace the old inline-3 turbo mill. The new four-cylinder is still getting a turbo that can make up to 181 horsepower. Other details like interior changes, transmissions, etc., remain to be unclear.

So what does this mean for the Philippine market? Well, we aren’t sure yet, but having a four-pot Coolray might sway even more potential car buyers for the said model.  

Currently, the Philippine-spec Coolray uses a 1.5-liter inline-3 turbo gasoline engine paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. At maximum, it can make up to 177 horsepower and 255 Nm of torque. This makes it one of the most powerful crossovers in its segment. Pricing for the PH-spec Geely Coolray starts at Php 998,000.
