Some claim that the third installment of the Fast and Furious franchise, which is the Tokyo Drift, is the best among the other films. They say that Tokyo Drift is the most street racing-oriented movie in which, they claim, is the general concept of the franchise.

Whether you agree or not, you cannot deny the genius that was put into the movie. Of course, the number one reason why Tokyo Drift is regarded by many as the best movie from the Fast and Furious franchise is because of the Japanese tuner cars that were revving and drifting in most scenes.

The Cost of EVERY Car From Tokyo Drift

With that being said, let’s name all the cars that were included in Tokyo Drift. Take note that we only listed down those that were visibly driven by the main and supporting characters in the movie.

2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX

We’ll start the list off with one of the main cars in Tokyo Drift. Sean Boswell, the main character, had no cars when he moved to Tokyo. As such, Han Seoul-Oh decided to hand over his red Evo IX to Sean.

One of the main cars in the film

As we might all know, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo was introduced in the rally sports game with an AWD (all-wheel-drive) drivetrain. An AWD car has a hard time oversteering, or drifting, as power is sent to all wheels. For this reason, the front driveshafts of Evo IX in Tokyo Drift were disconnected to enable smoother drifting.

1971 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

The Chevy Monte Carlo is one of the first cars you will see in Tokyo Drift. It was driven by Sean Boswell going in and out of his high school. His life changed when he was challenged by Clay in a Dodge Viper to a race in a developing subdivision.

2006 Dodge Viper SRT-10

It is just right to put this next to the Monte Carlo as these two created one of the most memorable races in the franchise. The 2006 Dodge Viper SRT-10, a.k.a ‘daddy’s Viper,’ was driven by football player Clay who raced Sean for the chance to date his girlfriend.

Classy and sporty in red

Unfortunately, the Dodge Viper was totaled in the final stretch of its race against Sean’s Monte Carlo. Both Clay and his girlfriend were bailed out by their rich parents, while Sean had to move to Japan.

2005 Volkswagen Touran

Some say that Twinkie’s Volkswagen Touran looks odd, while some say that it looks just fine. Well, it is living in the Fast and Furious world so producers had to make it stand out and memorable. The 2005 Volkswagen Touran comes with a Hulk-inspired look with 3D punch details on the sides, 3D foot detail at the rear, and spikey hair up top.

"At least let me drive"

Inside, the Hulk-inspired Touran is installed with TV monitors and subwoofers, a perfect entry to the tuning and mod world of Japan. It only takes some time to get used to the final look. But overall, we think it fits the whole concept of Tokyo Drift.

2001 Nissan Silvia S15

Despite Twinkie’s constant reminder to not destroy Han’s Nissan Silvia S15, it was wrecked after a series of bad turns in the parking garage. Han named the Silvia S15 as the ‘Mona Lisa’ as it is probably the most prized possession among his cars.

The 'Mona Lisa' of the drift world

1967 Ford Mustang Fastback

It is a great detail to see a classic American car such as the 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback in a country that manufactures iconic cars. The Ford Mustang is owned by Sean’s father which was later used in a race against Takashi to determine who leaves and stays in Tokyo.

The final race in the film

In the final race, the Mustang was fitted by the 2.6-liter twin-turbo Skyline GT-R engine from the Mona Lisa alongside a new braking system, a new set of tires, and more. Watching the customized Mustang shows us the beauty when American and Japanese engineering combine.

2002/2003 Nissan Fairlady Z (Z33)

Both the main antagonist of the film, Takashi, and his close friend, Morimoto, roll in a Nissan Fairlady Z (Z33). With this type of setup, it is not hard for viewers to distinguish whenever the ‘bad guys’ of the film are around the scene.

D.K. as in 'Drift King'

Takashi drives the 2003 model, while Morimoto drives the 2002 model. Both Fairlady Z33’s use a 3.5-liter V6 engine, but Takashi’s car is equipped with few upgrades such as APS stainless headers and turbo exhaust, and Magnaflow performance mufflers.

1970 Plymouth Road Runner GTX

If you are unfamiliar with the odd timeline of the Fast and Furious franchise, then you might be wondering how is Han still alive in the latest installments after allegedly dying in a car explosion in the Tokyo Drift movie.

One great American muscle

Dominic Toretto came in the final minutes of the Tokyo Drift movie in a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner, showcasing his love for American muscle cars in a tuner-heavy country like Japan. His appearance in the third movie gave sense to the franchise that Tokyo Drift happened after the sixth installment which primarily occurred in Europe.

2004 Mazda RX-8

Can we just talk first about that paint job? It looks clean and simple yet eye-catching. The 2004 Mazda RX-8 was finished in black, light blue, and blue. And as for the engine, Neela’s RX-8 is powered by a 1.3-liter 13B rotary engine with a GReddy turbo kit and engine management system. Although Neela doesn’t need a computer to tell her about her throttle response.

Few of the cars in the franchise installed with a rotary engine

If you watch the film closely, there is also another Mazda RX-8 used in Tokyo Drift. The other RX-8 in red can be seen in the chase scene of Sean, Neela, Morimoto, Han, and Takashi where Morimoto crashed in the opposing lane. It is the last one to hit Morimoto’s Nissan Fairlady Z33.

1997 Mazda RX-7

Of course, it is great to finish this list off on a high note with Han’s iconic 1997 Mazda RX-7. This is a great tribute to the whole JDM scene around the world and will be remembered as one of the best cars in the Fast and Furious franchise.

The Mazda RX-7 is fitted with VeilSide Fortune body kit and wheels which gave it its timeless look from front to back. Unfortunately, the Mazda RX-7 VeilSide Fortune was hit from the side in an intersection during an escape attempt from Takashi causing the RX-7 to burn down in flames.
