As two of the capital’s major thoroughfares, Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) and Circumferential Road 5 (C-5) provide vital access to other points in the metropolis and outlying areas. Even with ongoing traffic management projects, both roads still see heavy use from vehicular traffic, making periodic repairs necessary.
Expect more road reblocking works this weekend
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced on its website that it is resuming road maintenance works on EDSA and C-5 over the weekend. These involve reblocking works to replace worn-out portions of the roadways. DPWH Secretary Mark Villar cites reports from DPWH - National Capital Region (NCR) Director Eric Apayana that rehabilitation works will be conducted near EDSA corner Kaingin Road at the northbound section.
For C-5, DPWH maintenance personnel will undertake repair activities starting just after C.P. Garcia, third lane from the sidewalk. Reblocking activities will also be done after Rajah Matanda, also on the third lane, as well as on the portion after Highland Drive, second lane from the sidewalk. As with EDSA, all repair works on C-5 will be done on the northbound direction.
Motorists will need to find alternate routes or bring along more patience than usual
The repairs will be implemented by the DPWH Quezon City 2nd District Engineering Office, operating under a clearance granted by the Metro Manila Development Authority. Maintenance works will commence at 11:00 p.m. on Friday, May 28, with the affected areas reopened at 5:00 a.m. on Monday, May 31. Motorists are advised to expect heavy traffic on and near the areas where the repair activities will take place, which could dampen those planned weekend drives.
These road reblocking works are a continuation of repair activities on EDSA and C-5 scheduled a week ago, between 11:00 p.m. Friday, May 21 and 5:00 a.m. Monday, May 24. The initial maintenance works included repairs on EDSA corner A. Bonifacio, C-5 from Rajah Matanda to M.G. Dizon, and before Magsaysay Avenue, all on the southbound portion.
