The Mazda CX-5 received significant updates for 2021 in the Japanese market. Apart from adding power to the model’s diesel mill, Mazda also made improvements to the 2.5-liter SkyActiv-G non-turbo gasoline version.
It now has cylinder deactivation, which is a feature that literally shuts off two cylinders in certain situations in order to save more fuel without negatively affecting performance.

There’s also the 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G CX-5 variants, which also received 9 more horsepower. This brings its total output up to 165 horsepower and 210 Nm of torque. The manual versions of the 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G CX-5 variants also get the fancy new cylinder deactivation system.
If you remember, everyone gushed at the additional power the updated 2.2-liter SkyActiv-D engine now makes. Currently, it can now churn out up to 200 horsepower, which is ten more than its previous output.
As we’ve reported before, Mazda also added a larger 10.25-inch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Also, the I-Activsense safety suite is now present on all CX-5 trim levels. And lastly, there is of course the Carbon Edition CX-5 that everyone has been drooling over for the past few months.
