History of Suzuki Brand
Founded in 1909 by Michio Suzuki, the Japanese company first offered weaving looms as demand rose for such machines that would benefit Japan’s growing silk industry. After World War II, it ventured into motorized bicycles that would make transportation easier. With this, Suzuki Motor Co., Ltd was born and the motorcycle Colleda was introduced.
Development of Suzuki
In 1955, Suzuki’s first automobile, the Suzulight was released. It adhered to the need for a “light” car that can comfortably accommodate passengers and goods. Three-body styles were available: a sedan, light van, and pick up.
Suzuki local presence
The innovative car brand was introduced in the Philippines in 1959. It was distributed in partnership with Rufino D. Antonio and Associates Inc. and Suzuki Motor Co. Ltd. where it initially focused on trendy motorcycles.
In 1984, Suzuki Motor Co. Ltd. (Japan) assumed full operations under the name Suzuki Philippines Inc. It was acclaimed for its wide variety of trail bikes and scooters. In the year 2000, the Suzuki Grand Vitara was released locally. This SUV was highly praised due to its modern looks yet affordable price.
Other models came after such as the family and group-friendly Suzuki APV that can accommodate eight passengers; the Swift hatchback, ideal for young professionals looking for a stylish automobile; a new generation Suzuki Vitara oozing with a youthful vibe; the fuel-efficient Suzuki Alto; the cute and boxy Suzuki Jimny; and other well thought of vehicles meant to satisfy fans and new followers.
In 2020, Suzuki Philippines added two vehicles into its lineup in the form of the Suzuki S-Presso and Suzuki XL7. The former effectively replaced the Alto 800 as the entry-level model in the range, while the latter stands as the sporty version of the popular Suzuki Ertiga MPV.
Fast forward 2019 and with a nationwide sales increase of 21.17%, the Japanese car builder still is one of the most trusted. As of the moment, there are more than 70 Suzuki dealerships in the Philippines ready to offer their newest lineup.
