So what can the 2024 GWM Tank 300 buyers expect from it? Let’s find out.

Exterior

Being retro-flavored, the Tank 300 assumes a boxy silhouette combined with design choices which signals its ability to take on tough terrain.

At the front of the vehicle is a beefy bumper which is topped by a square-shaped slatted grille. Flanking the grille are round-shaped LED headlamps cut through in the middle by horizontal LED daytime running lamps. Likewise present on its front bumper are LED foglamps which can follow the steering angle of the vehicle for better visibility when taking on corners.

It has a retro-inspired boxy design.

The boxy silhouette is more apparent from the side. It gets a mostly flat roof with a pair of roof racks, while its sides are accentuated by huge fender flares. The latter goes over a set of 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires.

From the rear, it gets a full-size spare wheel attached to its tailgate, a pair of large rectangular LED taillights, and a tough-looking rear bumper.

As per GWM, the Tank 300 features 224mm of ground clearance and a wading depth capacity of 700mm. Those are combined with a 33-degree approach angle and a 34-degree departure angle. It also has short overhangs.

This section is host to circular air-conditioning vents, a widescreen touchscreen display setup, and plenty of tactile buttons for its automatic climate control system. The front cabin’s seats are also power-adjustable, while a sunroof is present above.

The driver’s side section also gets a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel with paddle shifters. The center console meanwhile, houses the SUV’s fancy-looking shifter, its drive mode selector dial, 4x4 mode selector dial, and other physical buttons for various vehicle functions.

For the rear, it has leather seats that can be folded flat. Rear occupants also have access to a folding elbow rear, a rear air-conditioning vent, and USB ports. Its cargo compartment meanwhile, gets a 220-volt accessory socket, and a power outlet for trailers.

Other features inside the vehicle include a cargo compartment cooling box, ambient lighting, and a push-to-start button, among others.

Tech & Safety

As mentioned above, the dashboard is dominated by a widescreen display. This is formed by a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The latter comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The infotainment screen is then linked to a nine-piece Infinity sound system.

This GWM SUV comes with an ADAS suite.

For safety, the Tank 300 gets an advanced driver assist suite (ADAS) with automatic emergency braking, roll movement mitigation, a 360-degree view camera, lane keep assist, forward collision warning, and a speed assistance system, among others.

Other standard safety gear aboard the Tank 300 include anti-lock braking, traction control, stability control, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, an automatic fuel cut-off system, and many more. It also gets an auto-unlock feature for its door for easy exits in the event of a crash or accident.

As per the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), the GWM Tank 300 has a 5-star safety rating.

Engine & Performance

Propelling this off-road SUV is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 gasoline engine. At the maximum, this powertrain can produce 217 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox. Thanks to those bits, this model has a braked towing capacity of 2,500 kg.

Ensuring ride quality and off-road flexibility for this model is a double-wishbone front suspension and a multi-link rear suspension. Stopping power is provided by disc brakes for all four wheels.

Of note, the 2024 GWM Tank 300 rides on a ladder-frame-chassis. According to the brand, this chassis has a torsional rigidity of 282.8 kNm/rad which ensures strength and stability when taking on harsh terrain.

For when the going gets tough, the Tank 300 also features front and rear locking differentials. Its All-Terrain Control System has a total of eight driving modes which were adjusted to optimize performance on various surfaces. Likewise present is a crawl mode which automatically keeps the vehicle moving forward from 5 to 12 km/h to effectively deal with particularly difficult trails.

A reasonably comfortable SUV that can go anywhere.

Last but not least is a tank turn feature. This works by adding brake pressure to the SUV’s inner wheels to get an increased turning radius.

Price

As of its launch, the 2024 GWM Tank 300’s sole variant for the Philippine market is priced at Php 2,678,000. As with all of the brand’s offerings, it comes packaged with a 5-year or 160,000 km warranty, whichever comes first.
