2023 GWM Cannon pickup truck enters PH market with P998K starting price

Great Wall Motor (GWM) is entering the Philippine pickup truck market with the launching of the Cannon.

2023 GWM Cannon

The 2023 GWM Cannon is a midsize pickup truck that appeals to Filipinos with its robust exterior styling, premium-looking interior, and advanced driver assist systems. It is made available in three variants, namely the base Pilot, mid-spec Lux, and flagship SLux.

Exterior

As mentioned earlier, the Cannon features a robust design, which is highlighted by the massive chrome grille along with the big brand logo in the middle. This is flanked by automatic LED headlights for the Lux and SLux. These variants are also installed with daytime running lamps, front fog lamps, and LED tail lamps. Only the flagship model has an auto-folding side mirror function.

The bed of the Cannon

The Cannon Pilot rides on 17-inch wheels, while the upper-end variants get a larger set of 18-inch wheels. Available exterior colors for the Chinese truck include Brilliant White, Pittsburgh Silver, Scarlet Red, Atlantis Blue, and Crystal Black.

Interior

The diamond pattern stitching on the seats and door panels adds to the premium-looking appeal of the interior. All GWM Cannon variants come standard with leather seats. However, the Lux benefits from eco-leather, while the SLux uses genuine leather.

The interior has a premium finish

Only the base and top-spec variants are equipped with a 6-way electronically adjusted driver’s seat, with the latter getting a 4-way electronically adjusted front passenger’s seat. The mid-spec variant is installed with a 6-way manually adjusted driver’s seat and a 4-way manually adjusted front passenger’s seat.

Tech & Safety

As standard, the GWM Cannon has a 9-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. But the Pilot and SLux have six speakers, while the Lux only has four. Also coming as standard include a smart key, keyless entry, and a push start button.

The SLux gets advanced driver assist systems

The Cannon SLux gets the upper hand in the safety department as it exclusively offers an advanced driver assist system function such as a 360-degree camera, Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Intelligent Cruise Assistance, Lane Change Assist, and Lane Keeping Assist.

Engine & Powertrain

Powering the pickup is a standard 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine capable of generating 161 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. The Pilot uses a 6-speed manual transmission, while the Lux and SLux get an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

The Cannon in Atlantis Blue

All three variants can be available with either a 4x2 or a 4x4 drivetrain. However, only the Lux and SLux boast an electronic rear axle differential lock. The 4x2 sub-variants of the Lux and SLux have Standard, Sport, Eco, and Snow drive modes, while the 4x4 sub-variants of the said variants come with Standard, Sport, Eco, and 4L drive modes.
