The Volkswagen T-Cross officially enters the ever-competitive Philippine five-seater, subcompact crossover segment. It will be competing against the likes of the MG ZS, Geely Coolray, Ford EcoSport, Chery Tiggo 5X, Kia Seltos, among others.  As reported before, there will be two variants for the said new Volkswagen crossover. There's the entry-level T-Cross 1.5-liter MPI AT S, and the top-spec T-Cross MPI AT SE.

The all-new 2021 Volkswagen T-Cross

The all-new T-Cross will be available in Volkswagen dealerships located in Luzon starting today, May 26. For Visayas and Mindanao-based dealerships, the said model will be available by June 4. Speaking of dealerships, the new subcompact also comes with a warranty that spans three-year or 100,000 km, whichever comes first. That’s on top of the two-year spare parts warranty.

Apart from the launch, Volkswagen Philippines is also extending the available discounts for the said model until June 30, 2021. Those who will book a reservation within that time frame can avail of a Php 30,000 discount. Of note, the 1.5-liter MPI AT S variant comes with a standard price of Php 1,098,000 price tag, while the 1.5-liter MPI AT SE is priced at Php 1,198,000.

It has some pretty interesting color options

Volkswagen Philippines is also introducing the #TCrossTrendspotting campaign. How this works is that netizens can take photos of T-Cross sightings during their travels around the Philippines, or in any location including Volkswagen dealerships. Then, interested individuals may share it to the social media pages of Volkswagen Philippines with a brief caption explaining their impressions of the vehicle, along with the hashtag #TCrossTrendspotting and #MoreThan1Thing. Five winners will be chosen to receive an entertainment gadget. This campaign will run until June 30, 2021.

Going back to the T-Cross, both of its variants will be using the same powertrain. It’s a 1.5-liter inline-4 gasoline mill, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. At most, this four-banger can produce up to 113 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque, all of which are sent to its front wheels.

Another interesting point about the Philippine-spec T-Cross is it’s the long wheelbase version. To be specific, it measures 2,651mm long, which is longer than most of its competitor’s wheelbases. Due to this, the T-Cross offers a spacious interior, which can have as much as 1,319 liters of cargo room with the rear seats folded down.

The top-spec T-Cross SE variant will also come standard with a 9.2-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink, rear air-conditioning vents, parking sensors, stability control, cruise control, a tire pressure monitor, autonomous emergency braking, a panoramic sunroof, six airbags, among others.
