It should drop by Q2 this year.

Volkswagen Philippines announced that the arrival of the T-Cross will be in the second quarter of 2021. This might be a nameplate that is unfamiliar to Filipinos at the moment, but it shouldn’t have a hard time introducing itself to the local market considering its world-class achievements and milestones.

The Volkswagen T-Cross is a subcompact crossover that first broke cover in 2018. Despite being a new contender, the small crossover became an instant hit to car buyers, especially in Europe. Volkswagen Philippines shared that it holds a positive outlook for its upcoming release amid the new normal.

The anticipated price for the upcoming Volkswagen T-Cross should be around Php 1.1 to 1.3 million. This means that it should rival the likes of the Ford EcoSport, Toyota Corolla Cross, MG ZS, and Geely Coolray.

One of the most reputable features the Volkswagen T-Cross will be bringing to compete against its rivals in the country is safety. It received a 5-star rating from various safety assessment programs such as the European New Car Assessment Program (NCAP), Latin NCAP, and the Australian NCAP.

The VW T-Cross subcompact crossover was also awarded multiple recognitions such as:

  • Best Compact SUV at BusinessCar Awards 2019 in the United Kingdom
  • Compact SUV of the Year at the 2020 Continental Tyres Irish Car of the Year in Ireland
  • Best Exterior Volume Brand at Frankfurt Motor Show 2019 in Germany
  • Compact SUV of the Year by UOL Carros 2019 and L’Auto Preferita in Brazil
  • Compact Family Car category win in the 5th annual Cars.co.za Consumer Awards in South Africa

Under the hood, the Volkswagen T-Cross could be powered by either a 1.5L gasoline option good for 111 hp and 145 Nm of torque, as well as a 1.4L turbocharged version capable of 148 hp and 250 Nm of torque. The transmission options could include a five- or six-speed manual alongside a seven-speed direct-shift gearbox (DSG).

With all that being said, it looks like the upcoming VW model is equipped to be able to compete at a high level in the local subcompact crossover segment. It will offer Filipino car buyers a subcompact crossover with well-revered credibility that is recognized around the world. Volkswagen Philippines should release more specs of the T-Cross before its official local launch.
