In 2017, the Kia Stonic subcompact crossover made its global debut in its home country of South Korea. After a three-year wait, Kia Philippines finally launched the Stonic. With the catchphrase “Style That is Iconic,” the Stonic was designed to meet the needs of active people in need of a stylish but practical city going daily driver.
The Kia Stonic is a sharp, angular, and youthful-looking crossover
Designed by none other than Peter Schreyer, the designer of the Audi TT, the Kia Stonic looks like it’ll really stand out on Philippine roads. It still sports the familiar Tiger Nose Grille, which is then combined with sporty design cues provided by the aggressive looking skid-plate, and the angular lines spread around the front fascia. The roof-rails on the Stonic will definitely see some use by its more adventurous users.
Otherwise, it also provides the model a macho, purposeful appearance. And of course, the Stonic comes with a sporty two-tone paint job. Together with the blacked-out pillar, this makes for a very stylish floating-roof look. Completing the exterior design of the Stonic is a set of modern looking 16-inch alloy wheels.
The rear end also gets skid-plate
The Kia Stonic dimensions measure 4,100 mm long, 1,735 mm wide, and 1,533 mm high. It has the right size to project its youthful looks and to provide a decent amount of road presence. The new Kia subcompact crossover also has 185 mm of ground clearance, which we reckon will be great for dealing with speed-bumps and less than stellar city roads.
Propelling the 2020 Kia Stonic is a 1.4-liter dual CVVT gasoline engine capable. Power is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission or a five-speed manual. With the automatic, the Stonic can make up to 97 horsepower, while the manual version can churn out a maximum of 94 horsepower. Both variants can produce 132 Nm of torque.
Inside, the Stonic is equipped with an eight-inch touchscreen capable of connecting via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The top variant keeps its five occupants comfortable with a single-zone automatic air-conditioner. For cargo, the Stonic can hold a minimum of 325-liters with the rear seats deployed.
