Mitsubishi Eclipse Philippines Overview

The Mitsubishi Eclipse is a stunning sport compact vehicle offered in a two-door liftback coupe and a two-door convertible. It features a sleek and well-detailed body highlighted with useful features for a safe and consistent riding experience. Inside, it is packed with driver and passenger amenities that guarantee comfort and convenience. The Mitsubishi Eclipse is available in the following variants: the Mitsubishi Eclipse GS, the Mitsubishi Eclipse GS Sport, and the Mitsubishi Eclipse GT. It is offered in Northstar White, Sunset Pearlescent, Carbon, Kalapana Black, and Rave Red.

Launch

The first generation Mitsubishi Eclipse was unveiled in 1989. It was released as a front-wheel-drive with four trim levels, two of which were powered by a turbocharged engine. The 1990 to 1991 models featured the iconic pop-up headlights.

The second-generation was launched in 1994 revamped with a rounded exterior and a more spacious interior. In 1996, the convertible Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder was made available in the market. It was released in two trim levels powered by a 2.4-liter 4G64 engine and a 4g63 engine.

The third-generation Mitsubishi Eclipse was released at the 1998 North American International Auto Show sharing the same powertrain with the Galant.

Seven years later, the fourth generation was unveiled with a GT variant powered by a MIVEC V6 technology.

The Mitsubishi Eclipse was widely supported in the Middle East, North America, China, and the Philippines but in August 2011, Mitsubishi Motors decided to stop its production. Of note, Mitsubishi resurrected the Eclipse nameplate but it now comes as a crossover vehicle rather than a sedan.

Exterior

The Mitsubishi Eclipse measures 4,582mm long, 1,834mm wide, and 1,351mm tall. It flaunts the Japanese carmaker’s signature sharp styling reminiscent of glorious exotic sports cars. Highlights include a pair of high-intensity discharge projector-type headlights, parabolic fog lights, two-tone bumpers, power glass sunroof, or black-painted roof depending on the variant, LED tail lights, two exhaust outlets with tips, and a set of 18-inch ten-spoke aluminum alloy wheels.

Interior

The Mitsubishi Eclipse offers a comfortable cabin as it is built with a 2,576mm wheelbase. Mitsubishi Motors fitted this trendy sport compact vehicle with fabric or leather interior trim in highly-detailed textures. Notable features in the cabin include the wave-form cockpit, heated leather seats, automatic climate control, leather-wrapped sport steering wheel and shift knob, and illuminated instrument cluster and controls.

The Mitsubishi Eclipse is equipped with a Mitsubishi audio system and a hands-free Bluetooth phone system.

The Mitsubishi Eclipse utilized the Mitsubishi PS platform. It is fitted with a MacPherson strut suspension at the front and independent multi-link suspension at the rear. Its braking power is assisted by 11.6 front ventilated disc brakes at the front and 10.3 rear solid disc brakes.

Engine & Drivetrain

The Mitsubishi Eclipse is available in two engine options: a 162 horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder SOHC engine paired with a four-speed automatic transmission for the Mitsubishi Eclipse GS and the Mitsubishi GS Sports, and a 265 horsepower 3.8-liter V6 engine mated with a five-speed automatic transmission for the Mitsubishi GT.
