Launch
The first generation Mitsubishi Eclipse was unveiled in 1989. It was released as a front-wheel-drive with four trim levels, two of which were powered by a turbocharged engine. The 1990 to 1991 models featured the iconic pop-up headlights.
The second-generation was launched in 1994 revamped with a rounded exterior and a more spacious interior. In 1996, the convertible Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder was made available in the market. It was released in two trim levels powered by a 2.4-liter 4G64 engine and a 4g63 engine.
The third-generation Mitsubishi Eclipse was released at the 1998 North American International Auto Show sharing the same powertrain with the Galant.
Seven years later, the fourth generation was unveiled with a GT variant powered by a MIVEC V6 technology.
The Mitsubishi Eclipse was widely supported in the Middle East, North America, China, and the Philippines but in August 2011, Mitsubishi Motors decided to stop its production. Of note, Mitsubishi resurrected the Eclipse nameplate but it now comes as a crossover vehicle rather than a sedan.
