The truck is looking more rugged than ever.

After a long wait, Mitsubishi Motors finally touched on the next-generation Triton, also known as Strada in our market, with the preview of the XRT Concept at the 44th Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS) in Thailand.

Mitsubishi XRT Concept

Since last year, the Japanese automaker has been conducting road tests for the next-gen Strada under camouflage. Now, the pickup truck comes out in the metal with muscular design styling as expected after seeing the spy photos.

The Mitsubishi XRT Concept is fitted with front and rear over fenders for that off-road look, which is further complemented by the large mud terrain tires. Inspired by lava rocks packed with condensed energy, the body has a black and silver camouflage design, as well as a graphic of the 10-parallel line Ralliart brand icon.

An assertive front fascia

Speaking of Ralliart, the upcoming sixth-gen Mitsubishi Strada has been developed with data gained from the automaker’s rally stint at the 2022 Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR). However, the official power unit options are yet to be disclosed.

For the 2023 season of AXCR, Mitsubishi Motors plans to compete with a prototype version of the next-gen Strada. The automaker is looking to deliver a back-to-back win, with Hiroshi Masuoka, a two-time Dakar Rally champion driver, staying as team director.

A glimpse of what's to come

The next-gen Mitsubishi Strada is slated to be launched sometime in the brand’s fiscal 2023, which means that the latest date is in March 2024. By then, the pickup truck will be released in the rest of ASEAN and other global markets.

“Fiscal 2023 is an important year for Mitsubishi Motors to accelerate our business in the ASEAN region, with the launch of a fully revamped Triton and an all-new compact SUV,” said Mitsubishi Motors President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Takao Kato.

“The all-new Triton is going through final touch-ups in preparation for its release, as we have performed rigorous endurance tests around the world, while also incorporating the know-how gained from rally activities. With the new vehicle launches as the centerpiece, we will continue our drive toward further growth. Please look forward to the future of Mitsubishi Motors,” added Kato.

The all-new Strada looks tougher

With the all-new Mitsubishi Strada nearing its debut, the next-generation Montero Sport is looking to follow sometime in 2025. The automaker aims to expand its product portfolio by rolling out 16 models globally over the next five years including nine xEV (electric) models.
