The arrival of the all-new generation versions of the Mitsubishi Strada and Montero Sport could be around the corner following the brand’s recently-launched “Challenge 2025” plan.
Mitsubishi will roll out 16 models globally over the next five years
Under the said business plan, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation will roll out a total of 16 new models globally, with nine of them electrified in the next five years. The Japanese automaker also noted that 12 of the new Mitsubishi models are bound for the Growth Drivers that include the ASEAN market.
Among the new models to be launched are a pickup and a PPV. PPV stands for pickup platform vehicle, which is commonly known locally as ladder-frame midsize SUVs.
The Challenge 2025 states that the next-gen Mitsubishi Strada will be launched first. Based on Mitsubishi’s timeline, the next-gen Strada could debut sometime in late 2023 or in 2024.
The all-new Strada has been spotted being tested on public roads, coming with a boxier-looking stance that makes the truck look larger and a new front fascia expected to be guided by the brand’s Dynamic Shield.
Challenge 2025 Period
Meanwhile, the next-gen Montero Sport should make its debut in 2025. Like the current-generation Montero Sport and Strada, the upcoming versions should share similar components with each other, minus the third-row seats for the pickup counterpart.
The power unit is also expected to be the same. Although, we still aren’t sure whether the two will carry over the 2.4-liter MIVEC turbodiesel engine or use a different powertrain. Part of the business plan is the brand’s aggressive transition to offering a more electrified lineup.
So much so that a new pickup model powered completely by an electric powertrain is expected to come out over the next five years. It will be joined by other xEV (electric) models including a 2-row SUV BEV (battery electric vehicle), 2-row SUV BEV, Xpander Hybrid, MPV HEV, Colt, and two Alliance BEVs.
Moreover, three more ICE-powered models will be launched, namely an MPV, a three-row SUV, and a Kei-passenger car.

As of this writing, Mitsubishi hasn’t put out any specifications regarding the next-gen Strada and Montero Sport. Upon the arrival of the newer versions, the pickup will be in its sixth-generation form, while the Montero Sport will see its fourth-generation model.
